The first settler in Plano was John Denton in 1872. By 1900, Plano had a population of around 2,500 people. In 1901, when Dallas County was created from parts of Dallas and Kaufman counties, Plano became part of that county as well. In 1911 it had a population of 10,000 people and by 1920 it had 15,000 people. However during World War II it lost much of its economic significance as a result of military production within Dallas but regained some importance after 1945 as a result of suburban development within the city limits which surrounded PLANO proper. In recent years there has been significant gentrification taking place throughout downtown Plano with many local businesses moving out while also new restaurants/bars opening up which cater to young professionals who work or live in downtown Plano now

Plano, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the seat of Dallas County. According to the 2010 census, Plano had a population of 153,624. The city is located in Collin County on the south side of Dallas and is bordered by Mesquite to the east, Richardson to the north, Carrollton to the northwest, Richland Hills to the west and Frisco to the south. It was named after General John A. Richardson who served as governor of Texas from 1865-1868 and later became an United States Senator from Texas. The first settlers in what is now Plano were farmers who arrived around 1836 by wagon train from Missouri. By 1840 there were five families living in what is now Plano Township; all but one are gone today. In 1846 President Polk appointed James Hogg as Commissioner for Indian Affairs with headquarters at Fort Worth; Hogg bought 160 acres (60 ha) near present day Plano for $1 per acre ($0·48/ha). After purchasing additional land near present day Arlington Heights and Fair Oaks Ranch, he opened up large areas for farming with his own stock herd of Hereford cattle which he managed himself until his death in 1862 at age 49 years old while on military service in Mexico City during that war’s Texan-American War (1861-1865). In 1849 Jameson & Son built a brick courthouse which still stands today adjacent to Fair Oaks Cemetery outside of town limits serving as both municipal court and county courthouse until 1914 when it was moved into remodeled status as a museum within downtown Plano under Mayor Tom Barrett’s administration prior thereto known as “Plano Heritage Museum” free flowing open access since then without charge having been so municipally fundedPrior thereto known simply as “Museum District No 1″ continuing municipally funded thereafter through local property tax rates levied upon properties within its boundaries . Thereafter following annexation by Arlington Heights subsequent annexation also resultant from those sameFWA proceedings including subdivision or purchase thereof by Irvin Shapiro herein known hereafter simply as “Shapiro Addition”the only remaining part originally annexed therein105 acres (40 ha) comprising what has become today’s eastern edge or border extending northeasterly about three blocks along Elm Street between Harrison Drive/Rice Road (toingliding Interstate 495)and University Boulevard thence easterly nearly past Research Park Avenueall intervening parcels constituting our current western edge annexing adjoining portions lying further back on Rice Road just inside Loop 610 interchange proximate Pkwy 60 exit ramp no less than two miles distant thereby forming our present outer limit thus encompassing all previously annexed lands lying immediately east & west sides streets running northeasterly & westerly adjoining alleyways bordered by Elm Street thence almost TOIrvin Shapiro Addition aforesaid becoming our actual inner limit
Plano was founded by John F. Compton on December 27, 1876 as a town in Navarro County, Texas. It became a city on July 1, 1907.
