Scope mounts have been in use by Plainview shooters for over fifty years. The first scope mount was designed and built in 1951 by George W. Stephenson of Stevens Aircraft Co., Inc. It consisted of a metal plate that was fastened to the barrel using screws, and a rubber or neoprene strap that was strapped around the rifle's stock. This type of mount is still used today by many shooters in Plainview. The Scope Mount Company was founded in 1957 by Roy Crouse and his brother-in-law, Bob Cook. They designed and manufactured a new type of scope mount called the "Crouse/Cook" mount which utilized two screwless adapters to attach various rifles to shotguns (see photo). The Crouse/Cook mount quickly became popular among Plainview shooters, and it continues to be used today by many individuals as their go-to choice forscope mounting. In 1978, John & Denise Healy purchased the Scope Mount Company from Roy Crouse & Bob Cook. They continued to produce high quality scope mounts until 1993 when they went out of business. In 1998, John Healy sold the company back to Stevens Aircraft Co., Inc., who had been manufacturing them since 1951! The Plainview Historical Society (PHS) was founded in 1978. The society is a non-profit organization that preserves and interprets Plainview history. The society's mission is to "promote awareness of the culture, art, and history of Plainview, Texas." From 1978 to 2017, the PHS held various events including genealogical meetings, historical displays, and plaques dedication ceremonies. In 2017, the society established an annual donation challenge which challenges individuals to donate a certain amount of money to the cause every month. As of 2019, the society has given away over $5,000 dollars worth of donations.
Plainview is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,421 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Midland County and the home of the Midland Independent School District. The first settlers to Plainview were farmers who started grazing their herds of cattle on the farms around 1853. In 1876, John Litton established a sawmill in Plainview and soon began exporting lumber from his property. The town's only store opened in 1888 and was operated by J.P. Hickey for many years until it closed its doors in 1951. In 1924, Plainview became one of five towns annexation into Odessa by Odessa City Council; PlainVIEW incorporation followed two years later . From that time on, Odessa had control over all civil government within plainview borders (save for limited fire protection). The city council dissolved itself in 1966 when all but 2 citizens left to form Midland Independent School District which still controls most municipal functions today including street cleaning, water service, zoning ordinances etc., as well as education with 1 high school and 9 schools serving grades pre-kindergarten through 12th grade with plans to add an additional 5th grade this year (2018-19) . Community centers have been built or are under construction throughout town including: Holy Angels Catholic Church (First Congregational), First Baptist Church (Southern Methodist), American Legion Hall (United States Navy veteran/local community member), Good Shepherd Lutheran Church - Addison Road Branch (former nursing Home), Peoples Temple - Main Street Branch (Former church used byults communties during the 1960s & 1970s) since 1978 while also building a new wing for Stonington's West Side Recreation Center finished in early 2018 which will include: multipurpose room(s)/ gymnasium/amphitheater/conference hall/schoolyard addition as well as a large park area complete with baseball diamond/ softball field and basketball court ready for play!

Plainview was a small agricultural town located in the county of Travis, Texas, United States. It is now part of the San Antonio metropolitan area. The first settlers in this area were Tom and Nancy Bigham who homesteaded land near present-day Plainview in 1836. A post office was established at Plainview in 1839, and local merchants began to trade here. In 1849, a school was built here, and later it became the town's main center for social life with its own library and theater. The town also hosted a number of fairs and exhibitions during its early years. In 1865, PlainVIEW incorporated as a city under the name of "Plainview", which lasted until 1912 when it reverted to its original name again. In 1906, after several decades as an unincorporated community within Travis County, PlainVIEW incorporated as a city under the name of "Plainview". The population of plainview peaked at about 3500 during World War II before declining due to military relocation programs throughout the war years; however, since then there has been an occasional resurgence in population growth due in part to new development along I-35W just outside PlainVIEW's boundaries
