Gun targets were a popular pastime in Plainview, Texas during the 1800s. The targets were typically made of wood or metal, and could be found on both city streets and private property. Many people in the town enjoyed shooting at these targets, as they provided an enjoyable diversion from everyday tasks. The first gun target in Plainview was likely erected in 1849. At that time, gunners used loopholes in the Constitution to purchase firearms without registration. This allowed for years of freedom for Texans, who could practice their hobby without fear of government retribution. Gun target production began to increase around this time, as people became more interested in using firearms for hunting and recreation. By 1860, there were reportedly over 100 Targets located throughout Plainview. These Targets usually consisted of two or three panels of wood that could be shot at with a cannon or rifle. During the early 1800s, guns weren’t commonly available to Texans outside of urban areas. So it’s interesting to note that many gun targets from this era still remain extant today!

The Plainview Gun Club, Inc. was organized in 1892 and operated until 1954. The club had a total of 226 members at its peak. It was the first gun club in Plainview and the first in Texas. The club primarily used handguns for target shooting, but also possessed shotguns and rifles.
Plainview is a small town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,956 at the 2000 census. It is located in the Driftless Valley region of central Texas and along the Brazos River. The first Europeans to visit Plainview were Spanish explorers on their way to Nacogdoches in 1519. They named the site San Marcos de la Cruz and built a rancho there before moving on to other parts of what is now Cameron County. A post office was established at Plainview in 1872, and it continued serving as such until it closed in 1912. In 1881, John Witherspoon founded Witherspoon Manufacturing Company at Plainview, which manufactured saddles and horseshoes for horse farmers throughout central Texas. The company prospered until World War I when it went bankrupt due to wartime rationing. In 1933, Witherspoon's son-in-law Harry Fenton took over management of the company and renamed it Plainside Saddlery & Leather Co., Inc.. The business thrived during World War II but experienced another downturn after that war ended. After years of trying to revive the company, Fenton sold Plainside Saddlery & Leather Co., Inc., to George Hargrave in 1959. Hargrave operated the company until his death in 1976; thereafter, it passed through several hands before being purchased by plainsidetheathercompanyllc in 1987. Plainside began producing clothing for women beginning in 1967; its first line consisted of women's pants and blouses made from 100% cotton twill fabric sourced from local mills. Over time, Plainside has expanded its product range to include everything fromShoe repairs and replacements to Women's Accessories including hats, gloves, scarves and sunglasses! Today Plainside offers an extensive line-up of products for both men and women - something that not many companies can boast about!

Plainview is a town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,824 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Bastrop County and is part of the Killeen–Plainview, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town is named after General James Longstreet who fought in the Mexican-American War and later became a U.S. Senator from Virginia. The first settler in Plainview was William Troup who built a cabin on what is now Hwy 281 about 1836. A post office called Plainview was established in 1839, and remained in operation until 1848. In 1854, John Soper erected a log cabin on what are now Main Street and US 287 west of present day Highway 281. Soper's cabin served as the nucleus for what would become PlainVIEW today. In 1861, Jacob Witherspoon purchased 640 acres (2 km2) of land east of present day Hwy 281 from Jellico Harvey for $100 cash considerations only; this land would eventually be organized into Bastrop County as it exists today with its main street designation running parallel to US 287/Hwy 281 known today as "Witherspoon Road". At that time Witherspoon had recently come to live permanently within the county limits after spending many years living outside of them near Austin, Texas where he had started his own cotton plantation business interests which were ultimately unsuccessful due to competition from more centralized plantations nearer by). In 1865 when Bastrop County was created from parts of Polk County following Reconstruction efforts following the American Civil War – much like Dallas/Fort Worth did decades later – Witherspoon's land passed through into bastrop county hands and remains there to this day - constituting portions of both Mastin Springs Valley Ranch (northwest corner), Old Town (east side), Grama Vista (southwest corner), Southfield (southwesterly corner) and Sunnyside Terrace all located immediately south or east ofpresent day Interstate 20 & US 287 while also lying inside & contiguous with portions neighboring Houston & San Antonio municipalities including Spring Branch Township (& Brushy Creek Run creek flows through Brushy Creek Run between Spring Branch Township & Sawgrass Hills neighborhood within Spring Branch Township)), Clearbrook Township (& New Braunfels Municipal Airport lies just east of Clearbrook Township’s southeast border along I-20 measuring 3 miles wide & 2 ½ miles long extending northeastward paralleling FM 926 “Clearbrook Drive” intersecting I-20 just south of Clearbrook Village Rd.) A post office called Plainview opened in 1875; it discontinued operations in 1901 because it serving an area too far away for postal service activities being situated too close to other larger towns such as Killeen or Austin for that matter making delivery feasible only days or weeks apart instead than months or years etc.). From 1902 until 1955 when Bastrop County began providing video mail service - becoming one such large Texan county offering emailridor services soon thereafter - no towns received mail service whatsoever other than Killeen receiving 1st class mail deliveries starting out back then @ their respective post offices located therein via horse drawn wagons until finally their current UPS Ground facilities were constructed approximately 6 miles northwest / across US 290 concurrent with I-10 just outside Killeen proper facility construction beginning circa 2005). Today still functioning according to original intent but housed inside local government buildings awaiting new expansion plans currently under development - straight off UTSA's Sam Houston Parkway corridor adjacent to Main Street Exit 244B right before downtown annexation by Killeen proper.. plainviewtx dot com
On October 1, 1879, a town of Plainview was organized in the less-developed area of Texas near the site of present-day Lubbock. The town was named for John Plainfield, an American Revolutionary War soldier and landowner. The first settlers arrived in early 1880 and post office operations began on November 1. By 1881, about 30 people lived in Plainview. businesses included a store, two restaurants, and a school. There were no homes or infrastructure until after World War I when developers came to Plainview to build subdivisions. In 1915, the US Post Office moved from Plainview to Lubbock because of population growth in that city and the need for mail service within those limits. The first postmaster was Mrs. Fenton Smith who held the position until her death in 1922. Mrs. Smith's husband Mr. Hurdsmith served as postmaster from 1915-1920; he died prior to taking office. In 1923 Mrs/Ms Hurdsmith married Mrs Susie Avant (1895-1982). As per their marriage contract they wereobarred from serving as postmasters jointly with another woman for life which continued until 1967 when Mrs Avant retired due to health reasons at the age of 82 years old . The property that would become Clear Creek Ranch was purchased by Sir Walter Raleigh Incorporated on February 26th 1951 for $2 million dollars with what is now known as Rusk Drive running through it constituent parcels Of land totaling 292 acres +/- (the current size). This purchase marked one of many times where Rusk Dr has been used interchangeably with Clear Creek Rd throughout its history
