Plainview is a small town in the US state of Texas. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Midland, TX Micropolitan Statistical Area. Plainview began as a post office in 1881 and was named after Captain John Plain who first arrived on the scene in 1875. The town was founded on a tract of land that had been surveyed by George Washington Austin and his brother James Austin, two of the founders of Midland County. The plain view nameakes were for what is now downtown Plainview - there were no hills or mountains in sight when it was founded and only platte and cedar trees could be seen from most parts of town. The railroad reached Plainview in 1886 and soon it became one of the leading commercial centers in Midland County. By 1896, when oil discoveries were made at Deer Park (west of town) Plainsville began to grow rapidly as people rushed to take advantage of the new resources. In 1907 Plainview built its first school – west wing on present day Elm Street – which remained its primary educational institution until 1954 when Rice High School opened nearby on Elm Street. In 1916 Plainview also erected its first jail – located north side east corner Elm street between current day Pryor Road and Ira Mays Drive – which continued to serve as county jail until 1984 when it closed due to budget cuts within county government. As businesses grew more prosperous they purchased more land which led to development along Main Street including an hospital, shopping malls, churches, schools and other businesses over time………………………………………..

Today, Clearview has a population of around 2,500 inhabitants and is home to many commercial businesses as well as several public institutions such as Clear View High School and City Park.
The Plainview area was settled by the Wichita and Creek Indians in the early 18th century. The first white settlers arrived in 1783, when Captain James Bowie and his party of pioneers arrived on horseback from Arkansas. They named their new land Prairie du Jour (Plainview Prairie). The first home built in the area was a cabin called Fenton's Fort on the banks of the White River. In 1824, a group of Texans led by General Sam Houston founded Houston's Colony at Point Clear. This settlement was near what is now Plainview. In 1830, Texas became an independent country and the name for this part of Texas changed to Texas Rangers after its inception as a republic. During this time, ranching began to take hold in this area, and Texan cattle ranchers developed large herds of Hereford and Angus beef animals that were exportable to other parts of America. In 1845, John Brown organized a raid on Harney County courthouse inaney (present-day Hickory Hill) during the Mormon War. This event is infamous because it helped lead tothe Mexican-American War two years later. Afterward, many farmers moved into Plainview from surrounding counties to establish themselves there as homesteaders or farmers following similar patterns as those who had established themselves along the Rio Grande Valley elsewhere in Texas. As Plains View grew older it underwent several changes due to its location: It became a stop on stagecoach lines between McAllen and Austin; it served as an agricultural center for various nearby counties; it became known for its Presbyterian church services; and finally, some residents decided to move away form Plainview altogether due to various factors such as increased taxes or social restrictions put forth by local officials
