The Plainview Rifle and Pistol Club was formed on December 11, 1876. The club located in Plainview, Texas at the corner of Third Street and Commerce Avenue. The first meeting was held in a barn. The club started with six members. By 1886 there were twenty-six members. On February 2, 1889 the rifle range opened in Plainview and by 1897 it had grown to thirty-two shooters. On November 6, 1898, Mayor Johnnie Pickett dedicated the new City Hall building to the memory of Mr. J.C. Franks who had been killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers near Lubbock Municipal Airport that same year. In 1899 Deputy Sheriff Tom Eagles became president of the club while James Ahern served as secretary/treasurer for two years until his death on October 12th 1901 leaving one seat vacant on the board of directors for three years until Frank Harshbarger became president effective January 1st 1903 until his death on September 25th 1906 leaving another seat vacant for four years until Franklin Bourgeois became president effectiveJanuary 1st 1909 until his death effective May 15th 1913 which caused replacement elections for both positions which resulted in Elisha Goodrich becoming president effective July 1st 1915 until his death effective December 15th 1917 which Cause replacement elections for both positions resulting in Harvey Ransom becoming president effective January 1st 1919 until his death effective April 15th 1922 which caused replacement elections for both positions resulting in Prescott Witherspoon becoming presidenteffective July 15th 1923 until his death effective October 15th 1925
Plainview, Texas is a small town in southern Williamson County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1887 by the Tomlins family. The population was 3,584 at the 2010 census. Plainview is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The Tomlins family had emigrated from Ireland in 1847 and were farmers near Killeen, Texas. In 1887 they moved to Plainview and started a general store which continued until 1914. They also raised chickens and cattle. TheTomlins family home still stands on Main Street just east of US Highway 281 north of the junction with FM 527 (now I-35). The originalTomlin farmhouse has been replaced by two more homes on nearby lots since the early 2000s. Plainview is located at (30.566667,-95.3000000). According to the 2010 census, it has a total area of , all land. As of the census of 2000, there were 3,599 people, 1,285 households, and 892 families residing in the town. The population density was 2 people per square mile (0/km²). There were 1,468 housing units at an average density of 0 per square mile (0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97% White; 2% African American; 1% Native American; and 0% Asian Pacific Islander
