Plainview is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. Plainview was founded in 1881 by A.J. Stephens and is named after him. The town was platted on November 10, 1881, when A.J. Stephens donated land to the city of Fort Worth for its annexation into that city as part of a boundary adjustment following the Lone Star War (1865-1867). On July 1, 1886, Plainview became an independent municipality with a vote by its citizens to annex with Arlington Heights (now Arlington County), which had been Plank's original intention but which he withdrew from consideration because he did not want his own community annexed into Arlington Heights without first ratifying it through a vote by its residents. In 1895 Plainview added a post office and two schools to its infrastructure; one for white kids and one for black kids operated separately until 1915 when they were combined into one building and renamed "Emmalyn". In 1907 there was also an oil refinery built here and it continues to operate today as Energy Transfer Partners' Trinity Refinery Complex - one of the largest in North America . During World War II Plainview commissioned local artist Johnnie Leyritz to design patriotic posters for use throughout the war zone including airfields across Texas as well as inside Japan . Leyritz continued this activity during peacetime until his death in 1964 aged 92 years old - making him one of only two Americans ever honored with an Academy Award for poster art (the other being Edward Munch). In 1954 Plainview homesteader Clyde Boggs donated parts of his property south of I-30 east to Fort Worth so that Prairie View A&M University could build their new campus here from scratch on what would become known as "Boggy Bottom". This event helped turn Plains View into an important center for higher education in Tarrant County. This stemmed from the 1857 Dred Scott decision, which held that black Americans were not considered citizens of the United States and therefore could not own firearms. In response to this decision, many activists took to the streets in an effort to get guns off of people who couldn’t afford them. The first major gun control laws were passed in 1934 with the National Firearms Act, which banned all handguns except those sold by licensed dealers. This law was followed by the 1938 Gun Control Act, which made it illegal to possess any firearm without a license. In 1881, Plainview, Texas was founded by a group of frontier farmers. The town was named after the Plainview-on-the-Arkansas River which is located in present day Arkansas. The original settlers were from Kentucky,Indiana and other areas of the US. In 1902, when Plainview incorporated as a city, it had a population of 400 people. The first mayor of Plainview was A.C. Smith who served for three years from 1901 to 1903. Other early leaders in the city include J.F Rankin who served as Mayor from 1907 to 1909 and Wm Hargrave who served from 1912 to 1914. At that time, plainview had two post office buildings which were used as stores until 1949 when they were replaced by the current municipal building and library which opened in 1956. During World War II, PlainVIEW played an important role in the war effort by providing employment for local civilians and soldiers while also manufacturing munitions at their plant on IH 35W near present day Midland Heights Elementary School District No 2 (MH2). In 1951, when Houston annexed much of west Harris County (including PlainVIEW), PlainVIEW became part ofHouston through annexation process though its citizens voted against it both times with only one instance where they exercised their right to do so via referendum (1955). As part of Houston's southwestward expansion into new neighborhoods such as Clear Lake and Montrose during the 1960s and 1970s; many residents left PlainVIEW for better opportunities withinHouston's more populous areas but not all have since returned home including some who still reside in plainview today along with those living within Houston's metropolitan area including Cypress Park Subdivision . The Plainview community was founded in 1892 by American settler James F. Cook, who named it for the Plains of Texas, which he saw from his farmstead.
