Wright Arms & Ammunition had become one of the leading firearms dealers in town and was responsible for stocking most of the guns available at that time. In 1913, John S. Wright passed away and his son, George W., took over management of the business. The business continued to grow under George's guidance until 1975 when it was sold to Great Lakes Gunworks LLC which continues to operate it today as a family-owned business with over fifty years of experience! In 1923, PlainVIEW incorporated as a city under law passed by then-Governor Orville Fenton Turner. The incorporation received approval from the state legislature but failed to gain financial backing from local banks or industries willing to contribute money for city government expenses such as streetlights and fire engines. In 1928, Mayor Edward Jansen organized a drive to raise money for an electrical substation that would power all of PlainVIEW; this campaign led to donations totaling $521 from 124 Individuals and 7 Businesses within 2 months! After years of planning and fundraising by Mayor Jansen and City Council members spearheaded by Lois Lunsford (later State Senator), construction began on the substation in 1930 - making PlainVIEW one of the first cities in Texas ever served with electricity! In 1941, when World War II began – plainview citizens volunteered service in their various capacities including working on munitions plants near Paint Rock Arsenal just outside town limits; afterwards they erected war memorials at both parks downtown (and continue to do so today). When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 – many plainview men enlisted early into military service serving aboard ships outfitting at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi - some going on submarines while others joined Army Ground Forces units fighting inland along I-10 south oftown Limits As Japanese forces advanced closer & artillery barrages rained down upon them – many men decided this wasn't really necessary & returned home before long Some women also volunteered their time & skills helping families stay alive during wartime shortages inside & outside their homes For many residents like Lois Lunsford who had grown up hearing about WWII happening right aroundthe corner – experiencing it firsthand made her pledge even harder not To Let America Go To War Americans never Fully understood what they were doing or why we were being askedTo go fight This terrible conflict until after it had already ended Many people here still don't get it nowdays
