Plainview is a small town in Texas that began as a farming community. Today, the small town is home to around 350 people and their families. The community is located on the banks of the Trinity River, about 25 miles north of Austin. The community was founded on land that had been granted by King George III to two friends, Colonel John Nixon and Captain James Robertson. In 1824, Governor William Brown established an agricultural district in what is now Plainview. This district included much of today's Travis County. In 1836, Benjamin Fenton erected a gristmill on the riverbank near what is now Elm Street. By 1840, there were five stores and four sawmills in Plainview. By 1846, there were twenty-four stores and sixteen sawmills in plain view along with six churches and four schools. In 1853, General Sam Houston purchased 3,000 acres (12 km2) of land east of Plainview for $4 per acre ($124 per km2). This area became known as Houston Heights. The first school in Houston Heights was built by Mrs. Euphemia Griggs in 1854-55 using funds provided by General Sam Houston himself. In 1865-66, PlainVIEW lost its charter due to lack of support from its trustees during a time when local politics was closely watched throughout Texas because it represented important territorial lines at war with Mexico City over Texas independence

Plainview is a town in Hood County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Plainview was founded in 1881 by Methodist missionaries and settlers from Kentucky. It was named for an early settler, John Plain who donated land to the cluster of religious pioneers that founded it. The first post office opened in 1892 and the first store in 1901. In 1907, Plainview became the county seat of Hood County after being chosen over Lubbock by voters. The growth of ranching and farming during the late 19th century caused a decrease in population; however, through various efforts by community leaders, including Mayor Clements Fenton and Chamber of Commerce Manager Wm. Averill, Plainview has regained much of its former population size since 2000. The most notable event related to PlainVIEW occurred on July 4th 1912 when eighteen-year-old Clyde Stephenson shot and killed James Hinton Rural Cemetery Superintendent Tom Cline while he slept inside his home near Main Street and Elm Avenue. Stephenson had been warned about Cline's threats against him by friends but proceeded anyway because he felt that he had no other choice. If convicted of murder under Texas law at the time (the "Capital punishment law"), Stephenson would have received a life sentence without parole before eligibility for clemency could be considered under state law which provided for a death sentence if convicted within five years after indictment or arrest for any felony punishable by more than one year imprisonment without hard labor or $5 per day ($75 per week). This act made Plains View an international symbol of violence against authority figures as well as sparking public outcry across America against capital punishment laws across all levels of government with some eventually leading to change within their respective jurisdictions (e.g., California becoming the first state to abolish capital punishment).[1] The town's original courthouse building still stands today on US Highway 281 east of downtown serving as both its municipal offices and courtrooms between 1913-1975.[2] It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978.[3] In 2002, construction began on what would become PlainVIEW'S FIRST GAS STATION - An Environmental Justice Center designed by renowned local architect firm Foster + Partners - which opened its doors in 2009 alongside numerous other programs designed to improve energy efficiency in local homes & businesses throughout Hood County[4]. To date, this program has led to increasing awareness about energy Efficiency issues amongst plainview residents & businesses alike[5], helped increase property values statewide[6], AND achieved LEED Platinum certification from Green Building Council!

The town grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, thanks to a mix of natural resources and entrepreneurialism on the part of local residents. By 1902, Plainview had reached its peak population size, with over 1,000 residents. However, even at this point, it remained an agricultural center: Most of Plainview's inhabitants were farmers or ranch hands. Although there were some major industry developments in Plainview during the late 1920s and 1930s - including a number of small businesses - it largely stagnated until the arrival of oil companies in the late 1940s and 1950s. This new industry caused prosperity for both locals and developers alike; as oil wealth increased demand for homes, land and services became available to more people in Plainview than ever before. However, by the end of the 1960s and 1970s - as oil prices began to decline - things began to change for PlainVIEW again. As many residents started seeking greener pastures elsewhere (particularly due to growing social activism), commercial development quickly picked up in town. Nowadays, much of what made PlainVIEW so unique has been lost within its remoteness: A few kilometers from downtown is all that remains of what once constituted an intense industrial district full of factories dating back to World War II.
