Plainview is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,914 at the 2010 census. The name Plainview comes from the prairies that once lay to the south of the community. The first settler in Plainview was David Cook, who arrived in 1835. Cook and his family were among the earliest white settlers in Williamson County. Cook built a cabin on what is now Loop 87 east of town on December 3, 1835. In 1839, John Shields bought land adjacent to what is now Loop 87 and erected a log cabin there also. Shields named his new settlement Greeneville after General James Hogg's plantation near Greeneville, Tennessee where he had been born and raised. In 1840–1841, Jephson & Hawley built two frame homes north of present-day Loop 287; these were their only homes until they developed their dry goods business into an enterprise that lasted until 1862. In 1845–46 Amos Stone built a one-story log house on current day Prairie Road just west of town center – this became Plainview's first blacksmith shop later that year when it opened for business with tools made from driftwood transported by riverboat from New Orleans arriving every week during early summer months. In 1850–1851 Cason & Co., merchants located at NW corner of Main Street/Loop 287 (now US 183), started trading Native American goods including beads and feathers for items brought overland by wagonloads down the Sam Rayburn Freeway from Austin across Buffalo Bayou to Brownsville then up Big Bend National Park along I-10 through Dallas/Fort Worth before finally reaching Houston via Independence Avenue (now US 90) . Thisagaradian trade extended inland as far as San Antonio de Borbón Mission near today's Alamo City before terminating at Mexican soil some 20 miles southeast of Brownsville at Presidio de Santa Anna - contemporary San Antonio proper Upon cessation of Indian trade around 1860 most Native Americans relocated within Brownsville or vicinity surrounding it with few if any moving beyond Lone Star State border according to historical records . Plainview is a small town in the state of Texas, located in East Texas. It was founded by General James K. Polk on November 3, 1853 as part of the San Antonio Missions District and named for Pierre-Antoine La Salle, its first governor. The population of Plainview peaked at 1,500 in 1910, but has since decreased to around 100 residents today. The town was originally known as Woodridge and was founded near the present day intersection of Loop 820 and US 281. The land that now makes up Plainview was acquired from the Chisholm Trail Party by Colonel John Sweeny in 1825. In 1853, General James K. Polk decided to establish a military post in what is now Plainview after hearing about Indian raids into Texas County west of Austin. The post office opened on February 14, 1854 and became known as "Kilgore." By 1861, Kilgore had been abandoned so Polk established what is now called "PlainVIEW" on November 3rd.,1853 within the boundaries of present day Plainview. In 1907, an act by then Governor Jimmie Denton authorized construction of a new school for children in PlainVIEW which would serve as both a public elementary school and high school until 1927 when it was transferred to Southside High School where it remains to this day (along with other West Side schools). On October 15th., 1907 additional lands were annexed to plainVIEW from Springdale Township making it an incorporated municipality with a total population of 170 residents (though only 100 are currently living there). On December 12th., 1915 local Hyrum Smith ran for Congressman against incumbent Democrat Jack McKinney resulting in his loss by just over 2% Of The Vote To McKinney's 8% After World War I ended hostilities ceased between America's two main allies; Great Britain and Germany Vetered their treaty obligations resulted in much German Property being seized including many farms owned by American farmers thus causing widespread social unrest throughout rural areas across America during these difficult times; This led directly to important changes taking place at the municipal level with many towns & villages becoming incorporations or amalgamations including PlainVIEW who experienced rapid growth thanks largely to investment &ame money pumped into their economy due primarily to oil production activity surrounding them (jobs created went along with increased tourism spending) From 1924 through 1933 there were four terms while McKinney held office representing District 103 before retiringduring Roosevelt's third term he lost again viaelection allowing Harry Byrd To take his seat Upon Byrd winning election In 1934 he changed the name back back toplainVIEW effective January 9th., 1935 following passage Of A Actknown As "The Planner’s Bill" Which aimed To modernize government Structure Much like howreesidential development had become common throughout America during this time period large corporations such as Texaco purchased tracts adjoining their shopping center&renaming it “PlainVIEW City Center” However despite efforts made by Mayor Boyd Landis lasting until 1951 housing prices continuedto surge leading citizens&renowned developers(suchas Bud Selig)to purchase properties adjacent thereto culminatinginthe buildingofthe Galleria complex on Main Street which contains numerous stores all facing inward towards downtown without any original infrastructure whatsoever
