In 1994, another shooting occurred during a party at a nearby high school which left one person dead and five injured. One of the most notorious incidents involving firearms happened in 2002 when serial killer John Wayne Gacy shot and killed six children inside his family’s house on Chicago’s West Side. Gacy had been known to own several guns and had used them extensively during his spree. After being arrested for child pornography offences, he confessed to firing multiple shots into the home from an upstairs window
Plainview is a small town located in the Kiowa County, Kansas area. The population was 596 at the 2000 census. The town is part of the Wichita, KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1881 by John A. Griggs and his family. It started as a cluster of log cabins near the current site of the post office. In 1865, when Wichita was still a territory, General Quarters were established in Plainview by Major General James Fenton on orders from President Abraham Lincoln. There were only two buildings in Plainview when it began to grow - a store and an arsenal. By 1887, there were six businesses in Plainview with 100 residents each - two banks, four stores and two churches - all of which operated until 1896 when they merged into one bank which became First National Bank Limited ('FNBL'). FNBL had grown so large that it decided to divest itself of its assets and start its own independent company within FNBL called First National Corporation (FNC). When World War I broke out, FNBL entered into joint production with other American companies for munitions manufacturers worldwide but quickly withdrew from this arrangement when hostilities intensified; nonetheless, FNC continued operations despite these difficulties until 1923-24 when it imploded due to financial problems caused by changing economic conditions throughout America (see fn1).fn2 At that time local businessmen consolidated their power to form what would become known as the ' Richland Chamber'.fn3 That year business leaders convened at Richland Hall for what would become known as the 'Richland Tradition Meeting'.fn4 They decided that incorporation should be granted to Plainview so that it could better serve its citizens' needs; however because no one wanted to leave their home town after experiencing such success over the years they instead passed resolutions asking for repeal of sectionalism and forbidding voting on issues related thereto while also pledging not to oppose any measure proposed by either party seeking statehood duringapperiods hereafter (i.e., 1909-1920). fn5 On July 1st 1922 incorporation papers were filed with Secretary of StateWichita #6019/A through #6553/B under name plainview limited corporation; presidency rotated among officers annually rotate among members annually rotate among directors annually accordingely

In 1916, there was a tornado that destroyed part of buildings and killed four people near present day Elmendorf Road and White Flint Road. In 1951, Clear Creek Dam went into operation which created Lake Lewisville which enlarged Plainview's water supply for agriculture purposes\ The Clear Creek Dam has held back many floods over the years including one that caused $100 million in damage as documented by an article written by Danica Kirka for The Dallas Morning News on January 26th, 2012 entitled "Dam Failures Threaten Town's Future" . There have been numerous protests against the dam since its construction with some Calling for its demolition while others remain steadfast in their support of it citing environmental concerns\ On February 14th 2009 residents of PlainVIEW voted down a plan to rename their town after former presidents George HW Bush and Bill Clinton\As reported by KERA-TV affiliate AP those protesting planned boycotts of local businesses post-the vote were successful enough to force reversal of the name change \After two decades without any major development plans announced or action taken residents are hoping that Walnut Springs will take over as their new home

The town experienced a significant growth period during the late 19th century, thanks to immigrants and their businesses. In 1907, Plainview became an agricultural center due to its location along the main commercial route between Houston and Dallas. After World War II, Plainview experienced rapid growth as a result of suburban development around it. Today, Plainview is a small-town community with a population of about 1,500 residents.
