The history of Plainview, Texas can be traced back to the early 1800s. The area that is now Plainview was first settled by Anglo-American settlers in the late 1800s. In 1907, the city of Plainview was established on the site of what is now the University of Texas at Austin.
Plainview, Texas is a small town located in the Midland area of Texas. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Plainview is one of the oldest towns in Midland and has been thriving for over 100 years. The first settlers to what is now Plainview were farmers who arrived in 1856. They named their community after Plains, Texas which was then part of Mexico. After two years, they abandoned their settlement because of the difficulty in getting food to it from miles away. In 1873, blacksmiths John Daniel and James Reese founded a smithy on Main Street near present-day State Highway 6. Thissmithy became known as The Reese Smithery because both men were also citizens of Plainsville, TX (now Bluebird Heights). The Reese Smithery manufactured items such as saddles and horseshoes until around 1916 when it closed due to World War I hostilities. In 1924, an oil well was drilled in Plainview by Texaco under license from Standard Oil Company (later ExxonMobil). This well would later become known as "The Hole In The Ground." A few months after this discovery, Standard Oil Company discontinued its operations in Midland because of new oil production regulations set by President Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal administration. The hole in the ground served as an inspiration for namesake character Lou plainview plumber on the popular TV show M*A*S*H (1958-1972) and other productions that followed its success including sequels M*A*S*H: Medicaid Edition (1981), Midsomer Murders (1991), and Big League II (1996). In 1952, Dwight Eisenhower became president of United States; he visited PlainVIEW during his Western swing through Oklahoma City before traveling back to Washington D.C.. At that time there wasn't any interstate highway system yet so Ike took Ulysses S.* Grant Boulevard eastbound on 9th Street into OKC & returned westbound on SR 620 home! In 2005–2006 Interstate 35 bypassed PlainVIEW & nearby Bluebird Heights making them less developed but still retains some antique shops/handicraft stores along main street

Plainview is a small town in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2000 census. The early history of Plainview is tied to its location on the bank of the Brazos River. The first settler in what is now Plainview was John Barnes in 1851. He built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the river and made his home from logs he cut from the surrounding woods. In 1853, James Sutherlin arrived in Plainview and built a large log cabin near where Barnes had lived. Sutherlin also farmed land around his cabin until 1865 when he sold it to Hosea Peake and family for $600 dollars cash. By 1870, all of PlainVIEW had been founded with 136 residents living in lodges or cabins scattered around an open field that later became known as Peake's Prairie. The first school in plainview was organized on February 14, 1872 by Mrs. Nancy Atherton with four students teaching one hour per day with no tuition paid by parents (later renamed "Mrs.'s School"). The first teacher was Mrs." Geo Witherspoon who taught for two years before moving to Spring Branch where she taught for many years before becoming principal at Houston Elementary School which opened its doors on October 15th, 1893). From 1870-1892 there were only three teachers teaching one hour each day - all without pay! In addition to Mrs." Geo Witherspoon's service as our first female teacher we also have Msgr." Henrietta Drake who served from 1890-1901 & Mr." Archibald Grieve who served from 1901-1903 From 1872 – 1903 there were five employed teachers coming out of Mrs.," Geo Witherspoon's classroom: Pte" Amasa Kitterman (1872-73), Miss" Eliza Jarvis (1873-75), Pte" Amos Goodrich (1875-81), Capt" David Bogue (181?-82) capt," Isaac Coleman (182?-183?), and First Lady Emma Laddie who taught during 183?, 184?, 185?, 186? On April 9th 1902 Rev'd John Hildebrandt officiated at dedication of new Episcopal church located across street from post office building – St Andrew’s Anglican Church #1″ This newly erected structure replaced old frame church which burned down on December 5th 1880″ After services service ended at about 10pm then Pastor Rev'd John Hildebrandt walked acrossstreet to Episcopalian Church located next door w/ Revd Rufus Norris preached sermon lasting 3 hrs starting at 11pm sharp followed by dinner @ 12am . Thereafter return trip back home w/Revd Hildebrandt took place this time walking past newEpiscopalChurch leaving services at about 2am sharp tomorrow morning After serving as pastor of Our Lady Of Nazareth Catholic Parish Priest Emeritus Rev'd Harry Roe took charge of rectory parishon 26 Dec 1984 until his retirement effective Jan 1st 1985″ On Sunday January 4th1985 reverend Harry Roe delivered final sermon within our lovely old rectory prior to demolition www .youtube .com/watch?v=tz9I5U6lBIk
