Plainview is a small town in Livingston County, Texas, United States. The population was 765 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The town started as a community on the banks of the Navarro River in 1872 when settlers from Missouri moved into what is now Livingston County and began to build homes. In 1903, Plainview was designated as the county seat of Livingston County after it was chosen by a vote of its citizens. The name "plain view" comes from when early settlers could see all around them without having to go out and look for it. In 1925, Plainview became an incorporated municipality with a government by village trustees. On July 1, 2009, township trustees voted 3-1 to become an independent municipality with full voting rights within the Township while still adhering to Township Rules and Regulations 6-2 (Standing Committees). According to ordinance 8-9 (Businesses), this change allowed businesses within township limits greater autonomy in setting their own hours and policies than those dictated by Village Trustees which had been in place since 1925. Plainview has two churches: First Baptist Church and Willow Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church both located on Main Street near Garner Road. There are also several private schools including Henderson Middle School; Tomball Independent School District's Tomball High School; Southside Christian Academy; Northside Christian Academy; Oak Ridge Elementary School; and Myrick Intermediate School - all located on or near Garland Road off Interstate 35E between I-35W and US 281/US 82/TX 244/. There are also several grocery stores such as Kroger, Safeway, etc., as well as several bars such as Joes Irish Pub & Grill, Crazy Horse Saloon & Casino Resort & Nightlife Complex - all located along Garland Road or just east of it off I-635/I-35E between I-35W and US 281/US 82/. In addition there are numerous truck stops along I-635/I-35E between TX 244/US 281/TX 232/. Residents can access interstate highways 10th Street eastbound exit ramp which leads directly to US 290 southwest of Plainview via IH10 Exit 298A then take exit 291A which leads northwest onto TX 244 before turning south onto FM 965 right past Hwy 287 towards Austin before continuing northwest onto TX 281 until reaching US 90 outside of Plainview where they turn south onto Loop 410 towards Round Rock then continue northeast on Loop 410 until they reach US 290 just north of PlainVIEW
