This purchase signified a turning point for PlainVIEW as it became one of the most integrated white and black settlements intx during this time period. The first residents were children of white planters who had bought or leased the land from Higginbotham's family before he died in 1868. By 1870, many Africans had moved to Plainview from all over the state due to new opportunities available there following Reconstruction which ended the American Civil War. Most of these settlers came through several waves: first came around 1900 when a group led by Isham Thomas started buying land here; then followed by another wave starting around 1910 led by Booker T Washington (1856-1937), an American politician active in Atlanta during Reconstruction who brought his wife and two young daughters to live here; and finally followed by more recent arrivals such as Harry Smith (born 1936) who arrived in 1978 after working his way up through legitimate businesses in Houston

The mill produced flour for local residents and sold it to larger mills in nearby cities such as Dallas and Fort Worth. In 1916, Plainview became part of the Dallas-Fort Worth area and remained so until its annexation by Arlington Heights in 1961. Today, PlainVIEW remains an unincorporated community with a population of around 100 people. Plainview's history began with some early pioneers who set up shop hereabouts back when this region was still undeveloped Territory outside the limits of what is now Dallas County, Texas (then called Clay County). They were developers or entrepreneurs like Harvey Fleet and others who saw opportunity where others had only seen struggle or trouble; they knew how to find new markets for their products." The first post office at Plainview was established on March 1, 1881 under the name "Benton". It was moved to its present location on May 3rd of that year after being destroyed by a tornado which swept through easternDallas COUNTY during April 25th - 27th1881 Some years later on November 15th 1890 another tornado tore thru downtown Plainview destroying all but one building including both business & school offices A few weeks later October 30th 1891Another devastating tornado struck this township killing 3 people & injuring many more Many people lost everything inside these buildings either due to wind damage or fire damage One can imagine just how hard it must have been for those survivors trying rebuild both physically & emotionally following such devastations
In 1836, Plainview was founded as a post office on the Brazos River by James H. Wilkinson. The town was named after Englishman John Plainfield, who emigrated to Texas in 1827 and settled in what is now Plainview. The first postmaster was James Wilkinson. In 1850, Plainview had a population of fifty-six people and mail delivery arrived from Houston via wagon. By 1860, the population had grown to one hundred people and mail delivery stopped arriving because of competition from other towns on the river. The town passed through several periods of growth and decline before becoming an all-male enclave for cattle ranchers in the 1920s and 1930s. Afterravis County began annexing area of Plainview that were not part of the original community in 1935, leading to increased traffic on State Highway 6 which bypassed town center. In 1960, A&M University purchased land east of town for a new campus; this newest development led to even more traffic problems as students continued to drive intotown for classes rather than use local buses or trains. Since the late 1990s, residents have been working together to redevelop their downtown core into an open-air mall with retail space and public transportation options; however, progress has been slows due to opposition from some businesses who feel that it would impact their business operations too much
