The rifle stocks of the town of Pharr, Texas date back to at least 1881. The first rifles in the area were purchased by local resident and rancher George W. Hines. At that time, Pharr was a small town located in Bullock County, Texas and consisted of only a few houses and a few farmers.Hines began purchasing rifles from Eastern Europe as part of his gun hobby and started rudimentary stock making himself in the early 1880s. By 1894, he had built up a sizable stock of rifles, pistols, shotguns and ammunition that he sold throughout Bullock County. During World War I, many citizens of the town arm themselves for protection against military deployments outside their homes. As such, rifle stocks make an appearance on various goods & services available for purchase within the town during this time period including munitions, ammo and firearms supplies. After World War I ended in 1919, restrictions were placed on guns sales within Bullock County due to new Gun Control laws passed by the federal government at that time. As such, most of Hines' old stock (along with some newer acquisitions) was never again sold or used in Pharr until after 1949 when Rifle Stocks Incorporated was formed to continue selling firearms products within the community primarily through mail order service
Pharr, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas and is the county seat of Medina County. The population was 3,711 as of the 2010 census. It lies just east of Midland on the railroad tracks between Midland and Odessa. The first settler in what would become Pharr was James Dickey, who arrived in 1846 from Ireland. He named his new place after his Irish friend François-Jacques Pharr, Comte de la Fayette, who had died nine years earlier while helping to suppress a slave uprising in Louisiana. In 1849, Pharr's father founded a sawmill here that still stands and produces lumber today with assistance from government subsidies. In 1875, brothers John Witherspoon and George Hensley bought land northeast of town for $1 an acre (now part of Midland). They erected a log cabin as their home and called it "Downtown." Erecting a courthouse downtown followed in 1903; Judge Jerald Ahern presided over its construction. The oil boom hit Pharr hard during World War II; however, it has gradually recovered since then and now boasts one of the largest hotel complexes in Midland County - The Radisson Astoria - along with many other businesses including several banks, two post offices (the current one being built next door), two schools (oneelementary School District #2) and three churches (St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church which also provides worship services for area residents), four restaurants/bars/cafes/taverns (including two within walking distance of Downtown), seven music stores (six independentlyowned), five health clubs - three within walking distance of Downtown - six golf courses ([four open to members only] ), three shopping malls ([all connected by expressways], Belknap Mills Mall [a newly constructed mall adjacent to IHOP which opened up this past summer], Southtowne Shopping Center) plus several smaller facilities such as 13 convenience stores[eighteen] . Famous residents include Cowboy Bob Seger,[5] Roy Orbison,[6] country singer Patsy Cline,[7] oilman Haliburton heir Aubrey McClendon,[8][9][10][11][12][13] author Leslie McFarlane[14][15], former Governor Rick Perry,[16],[17],[18] football coach Tom Herman[19],[20], filmmaker David Lean,[21],[22]'s son Ethan Lean,'s wife Lisa Lean,'s mother Jane Shepherdson,'s brother-in-law Donny Shepherdson['23]' The following are some highlights about life at Pharr during various periods:[24]: 1920-1960: Main Street was lined with general merchandise stores including grocery store chain Kroger; First Baptist Church on Market Street served as community center until 1984 when it became the Regional Library System branch library; Community Players Theater operated out of the old schoolhouse on North Main until it closed in 2002'; Two gas stations were located on Main Street - Champion General Store across from First Baptist Church starring Will Rogers; One family ran an ice cream shop called cones 'Cotton candy' from 1951-1996 before moving to San Angelo;; Three churches were active at once viz: St Bartholomew's Episcopal church which provided worship services for area residents ('45-'54); Second Baptistchurch ('55-'59) which merged into First Baptist Church ('68); Trinity LutheranChurch ('74-'76)which merged into St Bartholomew's Episcopal Church again ('79); Methodist congregation predominated for most active congregation until 1980 when they left due to denominational differences;; Arlene Bakker took over management duties at Community Players Theater starting in 1987......... pharrtexas@gmail.com

Pharr, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,834 at the 2000 census and 2,207 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first person to settle in Pharr was Hugh McGillivray in 1836. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Trinity River. The following year he organized a school and trading post in what is now downtown Pharr. In 1840, some men from Mississippi came through Hudspeth County and camped on McGillivray's land for three days before moving on. They were looking for an area to settle because they had heard that slavery was abolished in Texas. In 1843, John Wesley Hardin founded the Methodist Church in what would become Pharr. He purchased 160 acres (72 hectares) near present-day downtown Pharr from Hugh McGillivray. Hardin named his new town after himself – Fort Worth found its way to Houston after it was destroyed by a flood during the Mexican–American War (1846). After acquiring land surrounding what is now downtown Pharr, Hardin began construction on his new town site in 1845-47 using slave labor from Alabama and Georgia plantations owned by his neighbors along with local hogs and sheep herds he acquired from Spanish settlers living around San Antonio de Bexar (now Austin). By early 1850, hard work and dedication had resulted in completion of all but one block of Main Street which still exists today as Elm Street; just east of First Avenue." "Pharr grew rapidly due to cotton ginners working nearby until 1865 when production shifted toMilwaukee". "A cotton gin erected by Jno Hennepin & Son before 1880 processed 400 bales/day - more than any other mill west of Dallas".
