Pharr is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls–Lubbock metropolitan area. The community began as a farming community in 1881 when John Pharr and his family bought 160 acres (65 hectares) of land west of Wichita Falls. The Pharrs were among the earliest settlers in what would become Pharr. They raised cotton and corn until about 1915, when they switched to cattle raising. In 1935, the Pharrs built their first home on their farmstead; it still stands today. In 1941, Hilda and John Fenton purchased 5 miles (8 km) east of Pharr from the Simonsen family for $1 million dollars ($ 100 million current value). By 1945, Hilda had also purchased an additional 10 miles (16 km) east of Pharr which formed the present day city limits of Wichita Falls. Cotton production recommenced in the early 21st century but has since been supplanted by other crops such as corn and soybeans. There are now two schools inPharr-Stroud Elementary School opened in 1969 and Midland High Schoolopened in 1984-. The economy depends largely on agriculture with some light manufacturing activity; however there have been recent efforts to revive this sector including several new jobs parks that have emerged around town since 2007/2008 The2010 Census counted 1,824 people living within city limits while 814 people lived outside those boundaries reporting a total population of 2,113

In 1848 it became an independent municipality with a population of 2,000 and in 1912 it became an all-time capital district with a population exceeding 5,000 residents. The Alamo Revival Movement began to take hold in Pharr during the late 19th century and early 20th century due to its strategic location on both sides of the Rio Grande River between Mexico City and Austin, TX. The movement culminated into Operation Market Garden which aimed to put down secessionist forces within Texas by invading from Mexico City on October 25, 1916. While successful against initial opposition,Operation Market Garden was marred by heavy losses for Mexican troops and civilian casualties which led to increased tensions between Mexico and America over issues such as border control and civil rights which would continue until World War II
Pharr is located in Midland County, Texas. The town was founded by John Pharr in 1847 and named after him. It was incorporated as a city in 1907. In 1930, it became a county seat of Midland County.
