The first school opened in 1852 and served students from neighboring townships until 1898 when Pflugerville Schools District No. 1 was formed to serve all residents of Fort Worth County. In 1957, Fort Worth High School was built on what had been a family farm and became the first high school in Fort Worth County that met all requirements for state-mandated desegregation including making sure African American students were also given an equal opportunity to attend. The current high school building opened in 1971 and serves the community today. Today much remains similar however since most people who call Fortuna home still appreciate everything that makes this small town special – even if they don’t live here anymore! Pflugerville is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. Pflugerville is located in the central portion of Hudspeth County and is adjacent to the Wichita Falls metropolitan area. It began as a small settlement on the banks of the Brazos River in 1847. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location near the mouth of the Brazos River and its access to wagon roads that connected Wichita Falls with other nearby towns. By 1860, Pflugerville had become an important trading center for local farmers and ranchers. In 1872, Pflugerville became a county seat when Hudspeth County was created from portions of Fayette and Parker counties. The town's growth continued during World War II as it became an important manufacturing center for munitions production in the Battle of Brady Plano and other war-time locations around Texas. After World War II, however, Pflugerville declined as many manufacturing jobs were moved to more developed areas throughout Texas. However, over time, Pflugerville has regained some of its former prominence as a shopping and cultural center for surrounding communities.
Pflugerville is a town in Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,735 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in Pflugerville were pioneer farmers who arrived during the 1820s. The name "Pflugerville" was derived from German settlers' word "Flogertal," meaning "flat place." In 1851, James Waddell and his family moved from Illinois to what is now Pflugerville and started a grocery store. Two years later, Waddell married Mary Magdalene Browning and opened a general store in what is now downtown Pflugerville. By 1865, the community had grown enough for a post office and school district were formed. In 1870, John Bigham bought land east of downtown for development into what is now southcentral Pflugerville. He named the area "Bigham's Colony." For many years it was one of the most prosperous communities in Travis County because of its natural resources – water rights on several small rivers allowed him to build numerous dams that provided irrigation for his crops and homes. However, by 1890 Bigham had lost interest in developing his colony and sold all his land to developers including Jethro Gibbs (1856-1924) who built an upscale subdivision called Gables which still stands today on much of Bigham's original farmland just east of I-10 nearacus Drive). By 1900 Gables had become well known as one of Austin's most fashionable neighborhoods with fine brick homes dating back to before 1800 In 1902 local developer Leland Stanford built a large educational complex called Stanford University which remains one of Austin's most popular tourist attractions today Stanford also founded Baylor University in nearby Houston which became one of Texas' largest universities andrews Air Force Base (now Killeen Airport) located about northeast served as headquarters for NATO air forces until it closed down in 1993 due to budget cuts
