Pflugerville has been inhabited by Native Americans for over two thousand years and was founded on December 12, 1836 by Mormon pioneers from Utah as Fort Stockton. Pflugerville is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. The name Pflugerville comes from German meaning "place of the woodpiles." The first permanent settler in what is now Pflugerville was John Kerr who came to Texas in 1836. He named his land Postville after his hometown of Preston, England. In 1840, a post office called Postville was established in what is now Pflugerville and remained so until 1889. At that time, Pflugerville became a part of Williamson County. A railroad station was located here on the Santa Fe Railway before it merged with the Union Pacific Railroad in 1968. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Pflugerville experienced growth as cotton plantations were converted into homes for farmers and their families. Many of these houses remain standing today as well as some local businesses like Golden Corral restaurant and gift shop which are still open today! Pflugerville is a town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,953 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Midtown–Houston metropolitan area. Pflugerville was founded in 1879 by German immigrants and was named for Wilhelm Pflügner. The first settler in Pflugerville was John Haught who arrived in 1879 and homesteaded on the east side of present day Pflugerville Road. The following year, William Jentsch bought land from Haught and settled there with his wife Anna Maria and their children Wilhelm (1881), Eduard (1882), Gustavus (1883), Clara (1884), Otto (1885) and Lilla Margarethe (1902). In 1887, Fritz Kappeler established the Kappeler Brewery on what is now Main Street. He also built a log cabin which served as the town's first post office. As early as 1879, Germans had begun to settle along the Brazos River in central Texas; however, it wasn't until after General Sam Houston's army invaded Mexico that settlers began moving into what is now Cameron County from eastern Germany via Missouri and Illinois. On November 4, 1879 – just two months after Houston defeated Mexican forces at San Jacinto – German citizens of Waco erected a cross on high ground just outside present-day Pflugerville to commemorate their victory over Mexican forces during the Battle of San Jacinto Creek Bridge Campaign three years earlier. This event marks one of history’s earliest crucible moments when Texans came together to establish their new community near where they now live. In 1886 Friedrich Kuhlmann organized an agricultural society known as "Kuhlmann & Co." that purchased 640 acres of land north of present-day downtown Pflugerville from Arthur Rolfe heirs in exchange for 5 percent interest on future crops grown thereon; this land became known as "Kuhlmann Field".
