It is said that he used his telescope to watch an eclipse that took place over Texas on Aug. 21, 1829. The success of this venture led to other technological advances in optics and spectroscopy which eventually helped make photography possible and allowed for better observation of night sky objects such as stars and galaxies. Pflugerville, Texas is a city in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,722 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1879 by German immigrants. Pflugerville is located on the Brazos River and is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The Pflugerville area has been settled since the early 1800s. A post office called Pflugerville was established in 1879, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1904. In 1907, a railroad station was built in the town by the Austin and Northwestern Railway. The station served as an important transportation hub for settlers moving to this region from surrounding counties. By 1912, over 100 businesses had opened within a five-mile radius of Pflugerville's central business district. Many of these businesses were involved in agriculture or ranching; however, a few became well-known tourist attractions such as Texaco Station and Ethel's restaurant which still stands today adjacent to Interstate 35E at its junction with FM 527 near mile marker 107). In 1930, Pflugerville annexed nearby Grimesville to form a new city government; however, Grimesville retained its own local elections until 1973 when they were consolidated into Johnson Countywide government under one elected Mayor/Council Member system with staggered terms through all levels of government including City Council/Mayor & Councilmembers In 2009 Mayor Art Acevedo announced plans to move the downtown library from its current location on Lamar Boulevard between I-35E and US 290 to an enlarged site just east of US 290 off FM 1960 (exactly opposite where TX Highway 59 currently ends) adjacent to Rio Grande Park making it easier for pedestrians & cyclists traveling along I-35E or FM 1960 to reach downtown without having their journey interrupted by trafficakings along Lamar Boulevard

The community became a ghost town after a fire destroyed the local sawmill in 1902. Pflugerville resumed its growth following World War II as an agricultural center and grew to 1,902 residents by 2000. However, during the 1990s and 2000s economic decline hit Pflugerville hard; the population dropped from 2,362 to 1,824 between 2000 and 2010. Despite this decline, Pflugerville has seen some recent revitalization with new businesses starting up and development of new housing projects. In 2013, PFLUGERVILLE FESTIVAL took place in honor of Pioneer Woman Betty Jo Kerkorian who helped revive the town during her time as Mayor from 1984-1998.
