Pflugerville is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The Pflugerville post office was established in 1872, and remained in operation until 1959. The first settlers were German immigrants who arrived from North Rhine-Westphalia in 1857. They named their community "Pfalzerville" after the city of Paderborn, Germany. The name change to "Pflugerville" because of landowner John A. Flugel's donation of . Upon Flugel's death in 1905, his widow donated additional land to the town for development purposes; this included the present day downtown core and parts of what are now east and west neighborhoods. In 1907 the town began construction on its first school; that same year it also erected a Methodist church which remains standing today. In 1912 Pflugerville became an incorporated municipality; it adopted a Constitution and bylaws that same year that provided for taxation by property owners rather than via assessors or assessment districts as was done at the time within Williamson County. In 1923 Pflugerville annexed portions of neighboring Lyndonville; those annexations remainwatersheds still evident today including names such as Lamar Boulevard (now I-35W) and Slaughter Lane (now LBJ Freeway). That same year Pflugerville also annexed portions of neighboring Spring Branch; those annexations remainwatersheds still evident today including names such as East Market Street (now I-35W) and West Market Street (now MLK Freeway). In 1930 Pflugerville annexed portions of surrounding Mount Pleasant; those annexations remainwatersheds still evident today including names such as Old Uptown Road (now US 290) and New Uptown Road (now Loop 610E). As more people moved into Williamson County during the Great Depression many small towns experienced contraction with few if any conversions taking place - this was particularly true for Pflugerville which continued to maintain its independent character despite experiencing declines in population throughout much of 1931 through 1936 due largely to drought conditions across much of central Texas which had caused increased traffic congestion along local roadsides throughout most of 1932 statewide[3] . On 3 July 1936 however when annexation forms were conducted for two new municipalities – Gibson City southward on FM 1536 from Handbook R-1318 over FM 1446 & IH 35N from Handbook R-24 & Hwy 281 northward – both towns accepted annexation without objection resulting in one merged municipality forming with another – Plagueland located just eastofFM 257 between Mckinney Rd & Waco Rd while Gibson City became known simply as Gibson Municipal District #2 following incorporation on 5 July 1936[4]. On 7 November 1937 when a fire destroyed most buildings within Fenton Township near Harlingen causing major economic losses[5], all but one building within Fenton Township had been destroyed by previous years' fires so no effort was made to rebuild any original structures[6]; this left only two remaining houses/apartments within Fenton Township Limits unoccupiedantzied during 1937&38 although some occupants relocated elsewhere during these latter years primarily due to agricultural difficulties faced by residents near Waller Creek Bridge where irrigation water availability had declined greatly concurrent with droughts affecting other parts ol TX [7] . This situation would not be rectified until 1949 when efforts were madeto reestablish contact between residentsshared dwellings thru correspondence meetings held annually between representatives from each township&chief executive officer [8] ; these meetings later evolved into rotational civic groups responsible for maintaining peace & order residing near each house/apartment thru community association dues paid monthly

Pflugerville in 1876 as a simple farmstead on land that he had purchased from the Lipan Apache tribe. In 1881, Pflugerville became an actual city when it was annexed into Hudspeth County. The first mayor of Pflugerville was Fenton Silliman. In 1925, Pflugerville became one of two towns in Hudspeth County (the other being Wimberley) that joined together to form the Round Rock-Pflugerville Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). This MSA has since grown to include all of Travis and Williamson counties and much of central Austin. One significant event in Pfrgville's history occurred on May 7, 1949 when a tornado touched down just east of town near US 287 and destroyed most of what had been constructed there as part of Project Lightning—a major construction project for Interstate 10 between Austin and Dallas that involved demolition and rebuilding many miles across agricultural land north of downtown Austin. As a result of this tragic event, some residents took up arms against developers who were building new homes in their neighborhoods without following safety regulations set out by Project Lightning planners. These protests led to several arrests and eventually to the formation of the "PFLUGVILLE WILDERNESS DEFENSE COMMITTEE" which remains active today as an advocate for stricter safety guidelines governing development near communities like Pfrgville
