Pflugerville, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pflugerville is located on U.S. Highway 183 south of Austin and north of Decatur. The town was founded in 1876 by German immigrants as "Pfortheim", after the village in Baden-Württemberg, Germany where they had originated. Pfortheim soon became an important agricultural center with a large creamery and poultry production enterprise that exported products to countries such as England and Russia. In 1907, it incorporated as a municipality under the name "Pflugerville". In 1925, Pflugerville joined the newly formed Williamson County seat of Round Rock and its growth continued unabated until 1956 when it seceded from Round Rock to form its own independent government with its own police department and fire department. In 1966, Pflugerville again joined roundrock municipality when it merged with other nearby towns including Flower Mound and Carlsbad to form what is now known as the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). During World War II, Pflugerville served as an Army Air Corps Station providing essential services to local residents during Operation Crossroads which disrupted traffic on I-35 south of Austin while fighter planes flew over the city; however no damage or loss occurred to either side due to enemy action within range of our community perimeter walls! Postwar years saw steady growth for this small town – becoming one of central TX’s most well-to-do areas thanks largely to several key initiatives spearheaded by Mayor John “Jock” Burkholder: first being annexation by neighboring Travis County in 1948 followed by construction of Interstate 35 (I-35) just east of town limits which doubled home values within minutes – resulting in hordes Of tourists flooding into our area each year leading to even greater economic stability! In 1931 Pflugerville became a city with its own city government which lasted until 1964 when it merged with Fort Worth. During this time Pflugerville experienced rapid growth due to petroleum exploration and production in nearby counties including Willacy, Nueces, Mesquite and Parker County - all of which have since been replaced by more urban areas with similar demographics. The townsite of Pflugerville was platted on November 10, 1871, by J.W. Hargrave and Wm. Weigel with a charter from the Texas General Land Office. The first post office in Pflugerville was established on October 16, 1872. John McLaughlin served as postmaster until his death on May 15, 1893. Pflugerville’s early economy revolved around agriculture and ranching until the late 1800s when industry began to take hold thanks to railroads reaching town from Austin and San Antonio through surrounding counties. In 1907 PFLUGERVILLE INDUSTRIES LTD., an oil company started by local businessmen including John Ladd became one of Texas’ largest employers with its discovery of Midland Oil Field near Edmonton that led to significant growth for this small town during the early 21st century In recent years much development has occurred within PFLUGERVILLE limits bringing new life to older neighborhoods while preserving many historic buildings and businesses that have been integral parts of its community since it was founded over 130 years ago
