In 1938 it became a consolidated city when East Austin annexed it from Pflugerville. Pflugerville, Texas was founded in 1879 by John Pflugerville and his wife, Anna. The town is located in Comanche County and is the seat of Pflugerville Township. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,898. In 1861, Pflugerville was site of a skirmish between Confederate troops and Union forces that resulted in the death of one Confederate soldier and two Union soldiers. The town's first store opened in 1865 and its first school was founded in 1870. The town became a city on July 1, 1951. Pflugerville has a humid subtropical climate with mild to cool summers and cold to severe winters; average monthly temperatures range from 9 °F to 33 °F (5 °C to 18 °C). According as reported by the Köppen Climate Classification system, Pflugerville has a humid subtropical climate. The community's namesake comes from John Flughurst who donated land for a public square near where the current building for the Texas State Library sits today. A post office called Flughurst had been established in 1878 but failed to open due to low mail volume; it reopened in 1880 under new management under Postmaster General Isaac Stevens. By 1886, there were also three small stores within walking distance of what is now downtown Pflugerville. Growth continued apace during World War I with an increase in housing development as well as tool manufacturing based out of what is now Southern Tool Company which still exists today along with other businesses that have since disappeared or been closed down such as Gorman Tire & Rubber Co., Allstate Insurance Co., Lighthouse Dairy & Cheese Factory etc.; however much growth stopped after 1919 when comanche county decided not to annex into Dallas City limits resulting in more pronounced rural vs urban boundaries within Comanche County - giving rise local politics being more important than economic development for many decades untilDallas annexed annexation creating north-central Dallas rather than southwest Comanche County which led to rapid suburbanization around Downtown Dallas killed off most old industry while leaving much agricultural land vacant including much farmland used for oil wells before demolition began several years ago indicating that Houston may want this piece of Comanche Country back
