In Pflugerville, Texas, the namesake of the town is John F. Kennedy. The townsite was laid out in 1879 by John C. Fluger and named for him because he had a herd of cattle that grazed there. In 1911, Pflugerville was annexed by Arlington Heights and became part of that municipality. The population of Arlington Heights swelled to over 10,000 in the 1920s when it annexed neighboring Haltom City. However, during World War II Arlington Heights decamped to Fort Worth and its residents lost their homes, businesses, schools and other infrastructure in the war effort. Today only a few remains from pre-war days; one is an old cotton gin still standing on US 75 just outside the town limits.
