Pflugerville is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Pflugerville was founded in 1876 by John S. Pflueger and his wife Anna Maria as a frontier town on the new Chisholm Trail railroad. In 1901, Pflueger donated land to the city for its airport and other civic improvements. Pflugerville's name honors General George Washington Custer and his six Dakota cavalry troopers who were killed during the Battle of Little Bighorn in 1876. The first post office in what is now Pflugerville opened on November 5, 1876, with Wm Henson as mail carrier. At that time it was located between present-day downtown Fort Worth and Midtown Dallas. The first settlers were Dutch immigrants from Holland who named their settlement "Hemphill." A post office was established at Hemphill on December 3, 1879, with Jno Denton as mail carrier. In 1886, two brothers named Hutchinson bought 500 acres (2 km²) of land east of town for $1 per acre (4 m²). They erected a sawmill on this property and named it Hutchinson Mill after themselves and their brother Isaac Hutchinson Sr.. On October 14th 1880 James Flanders moved from Dublin to Hutchinsons mill site to start a family business which would become one of America's leading flour mills until it closed in 1986 due to competition from foreign mills; production averaged 170 kg/ha (3 lbs/hr) before closure). By 1890 there were over 100 residents living in Hutchisons Mill townsite including families with five or more children; school districts served by students from both homeschooled children up through high school graduation; churches had also been established near Hutchisons Mill villagesites; commerce thrived with produce sales totaling $5 million/year by 1910 In 1901 ADP built an express train depot next to Hutchison Mills' water tower so that goods could be transported directly into Dallas without having to go through MidtownDallas or Fort Worth At about this time Alfred Hitchcock filmed scenes for his film "Psycho" at the nearby Midway Airport . In 1966 ADP abandoned their express train service because they foundered financially during the late 1960s oil embargo .
