However, many aspects of early Pearland history still remain today including its brick buildings which are still used as government buildings today and its rich cultural heritage which has helped make it an important community throughout its history.
In 1836, Texas was acquired by the United States from Mexico. The area nowincludes parts of Houston, Pearland and Dickinson County. The area was first settled by Texans in the 1840s as part of the separate Mexican state of Galveston. In 1845, when Texas became a U.S. Territory, Pearland became its first county seat.
