At its incorporation there were no white citizens living within said limits save those employed or connected with said municipality through trade or industry; consequently all Negroes meeting qualifications set forth therein immediately left for other places such that during its first fiscal year there total only twenty-five persons lived within said limits - nine men and sixteen women who labored for pay day & night! In 1960 annexations added Dripping Springs (to the east), Flower Mound (to the north) & present day Whitney (to the northwest). On December 8th 1970 Hurricane Donna struck Houston causing extensive damage across much of Texas including parts of Pearland including some homes destroyed along US 281 near Post Oak Drive while also damaging stores adjacent toPearland Municipal Airport still serving commercial flights although many passengers were stranded without food or water after leaving their planes due to power outages caused by Hurricane Donna

It is the county seat of Pearland County and covers an area of about 32 square miles (86 square kilometers). The town was founded by James Fenton in 1836 as a trading post on the Brazos River. In 1850, it became the capital of Marshall County after that county was formed from parts of McLennan and Travis counties.
