During World War II,Pearlanldeployed up to 5000 servicemen and women across 14 plants making munitions including shipbuilding operations at Naval Shipyard Houston Bay which produced USS Enterprise (CVN 70), USS Dallas (CV 58), USS Yorktown (CV 41)and more than 50 other ships while also providing temporary housing for thousands more people during the war years at Municipal Housing Authority complexes located throughout Downtown Pearlandoand beyond such that by 1945 almost every inhabitant within city limits had received some form of government assistance either directly or indirectly related to wartime needs or production quotas set forth by federal planners called “Army Corps Of Engineers”which later morphed into Department Of Homeland Security
