ExxonMobil continued expanding into other industries such as banking and shipping until its acquisition by Royal Dutch Shell plc in 2001, which led to its current name - BP Plc - although it still retains significant operations within the refining and petrochemical sectors most notably within BP's flagship company - Shell Petroleum International Limited (SPIL). In 1935, when Tarrant County was formed from parts of McLennan and Travis Counties, Pearland became its county seat. However, during World War II with all 1942-1945 counties turned into military posts as part of Operation Overlord (the Allied invasion of Nazi Germany), Pearland did not have any functions assigned to it other than being administratively part of McLennan County. When Peace Corps volunteers began working in nearby Waco during the war (and many locals volunteered too), they took over most aspects of government there including housing and civil registration (making sure everyone who wanted to vote had access). As a result of this lack or involvement by Pearce Land until after World War II ended; many people incorrectly think that all activity within the city ended with that war/peace period changeover. After World War II ended and normal government operations resumed within Pearl City limits; various new businesses were established around downtown such as First National Bank & Trust Company which built a modern building on Commerce Street near Brazos River; Pepsi Cola's Bottling Plant on Railroad Avenue which served as one stop on Interstate 10 along with several other small businesses; etc.; downtown started to develop again into what it is today thanks largely to initiative and creativity on behalf of citizens who passionately pursue community engagement through various organizations like Downtown Revitalization Committee (DRC) and various social clubs/groups like Arts & Crafts Club which offer monthly exhibits inside Municipal Building annexe while also hosting weekly music concerts outdoors throughout warmer months outside Municipal Auditorium featuring local talented musicians.; etc., educational institutions located just off I-10 eastbound exit ramp leading north towards South Street including Baylor University - School Of Medicine - Regeneration HealthCare School baseball game takes place annually at Campus Stadium following Baylor football game played at Memorial Stadium either earlier or later that year making it one big entertainment event forouth end zone acrossfrom main stadium); etc., giving residents plenty opportunities for things they enjoy outside their homes without havingto sacrifice essential services provided by municipal officials like fire protection or police response times; etc., thus preserving intact much important history& culture corestamped herein since inception such asinstitutions mentioned above along with countless others collectively referred to herein under Municipality designation commonly known simply as "TheCity."
