Pasadena, Texas is a small town located in Webb County, Texas. It was founded on November 17, 1836 by Manuel Rodriguez and his wife Josefa. The town was originally named San Felipe de la Calzada. The name of the town was changed to Pasadena on May 14, 1907 after it became part of the new United States of America. As of the 2010 census, Pasadena had a population of 397 people. The first permanent residents in Pasadena were José Gómez and his family who came from Jalisco Mexico in 1835. Gómez built himself a house on Illinois street and named his land San Felipe de la Calzada (later renamed Pasadena). In 1836, Mexican War veteran Manuel Rodrigues settled in Pasadena with his wife Josefa and their children Francisco, Amalia (a girl), María Luisa (a girl), Ana Concepcion (born June 24th 1837), Miguel Angel Pacheco (born September 8th 1840) and Jesús Maria Herrera Casanova (March 3rd 1845- September 25th 1893). Manuel also bought 640 acres adjoining what is now Park Row from Juan Bautista Bejarano for $100 per acre. It wasn't until 1907 that Pasadena officially became part of the United States when it was elevated to county seat status following the creation of Webb County by Congress as part of Reconstruction efforts following the Civil War. At that time many Texans left for California due to conditions there such as low wages and harsh treatment from white settlers. The original courthouse building still stands within city limits today and is used as an important government center for local government functions such as elections and zoning decisions. In 1936, during World War II Memorial Drive was developed adjacent to what is now Interstate 10 extending eastward from downtown Los Angeles into present day Orange County including parts of Pasadena which had been annexed into Los Angeles County during previous censuses but not counted because they had no real municipal or political existence outside annexation boundaries In 1951 Mayor Gilberto Sanchez created City Council which functioned primarily as an advisory board to Mayor Sanchez rather than having formal governance powers like those enjoyed by a city councilmember in other U S cities such as New York City or Chicago. In 1962 construction began on what would become Freedom Plaza adjacent to downtown along I-10 near Union Station which would eventually serve as home to both the county courthouse located across Quincy Street from where most operations took place until 2000 when that building burned down causing extensive damage also totaling over $2 million dollars at that time . In 1990 University Of Southern California’s Chargers football team played its first game at Freedom Plaza against West Virginia University under lights before attending their annual spring game held at UCLA Stadium some miles away
