Pasadena, Texas is home to the first holster company in America. The Holstersmiths Armory was founded by John Sutter in 1892. Mr. Sutter was a firearms expert and researcher who also manufactured handguns and rifles. He became interested in holsters, which were new technology at that time, and began selling them through his own store. In 1896 he moved his business to 222 E 7th Street in Pasadena. From 1896-1920 the Holstersmiths Armory produced over 1,000 holsters for American pistols, revolvers and shotguns.

Pasadena, Texas was founded in 1871 by Isham and Alice Wilkinson. The city's first post office was established in 1874. Pasadena grew rapidly during the late 1800s due to its strategic location on a major throughway and its natural resources. In 1907, Pasadena won its first municipal election and became a city under the leadership of Mayor John H. Hill. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II with the influx of military personnel and their families who built up an extensive residential area around Little Tokyo in north-central Pasadena. After the war, many businesses closed down as technology replaced traditional manufacturing processes in Pasadena; however, new businesses began to form as people shifted from traditional farming to service-based industries. During this time, there were also significant changes within Pasadena’s political landscape with Mayor Hill stepping down after two terms in office and Councilman Gil Kerlikowske taking his place as mayor%. In 1969, Kerlikowske was succeeded by Darrell Ligon who served until 1985 when he stepped down to become City Manager; Ligon is now recognized as one of Pasadena's most important mayors. In 1988, Los Angeles County voters passed Measure R whichulkanized local government for all cities within county boundaries with no exceptions; that same year saw the establishment of the City of Los Angeles as a result of this change. Since then, various annexations have taken place throughout Greater Los Angeles making it difficult to track just how many municipalities there are within LA County today (although it is estimated that there are at least 27). As a result of these annexations, much civic activity takes place outside of the original borders of Pasadena (e.g., Little Tokyo has grown into one of LA's most populous neighborhoods since annexation).
