Although Pasadena was not initially part of Austin or its immediately surrounding rural area until annexation by Austin on December 15, 1876, development within the limits of what are now Fort Worth and Arlington began soon afterward; various transportation innovations – such as horse-drawn cars that first ran on Main Street through downtown (now Pershing Drive) – made this possible including one occasion when proprietor James Wylie ordered 300 horse power gasoline engines be built from surplus railroad equipment just outside town so that he could sell them back to the railroads at depressed prices! In 1907 property developer John Harkness developed Midtown Park which later became home to both American Airlines Flight Airmen's Training School (later US Airways Flight Center), which housed air traffic control functions from 1956 until its closure in 1997 due to budget cuts then Office Depot before conversion into apartments again beginning in 2006 as One Baader's Plaza;[ citation needed ] also located there was world headquarters for Volkswagen AG prior to becoming Audi USA Headquarters before being moved out again beginning in 2007[citation needed] . Midtown Park continued to be redeveloped well into 2009 with mixed use buildings completed along Interstate 10 east/west corridors serving as retail nodes surrounded by dense urban sprawl once more taking up much of downtown park areas large office complexes have replaced many small businesses straddling I-10 walnut streets dotted with apartment towers

Pasadena, Texas was settled in 1871 by entrepreneur James Fenton. By 1888, the population of Pasadena had increased to over 10,000 people and it became a city with its own government. The first school in Pasadena was built on South Temple Street and opened in 1892. In 1907, Pasadena established itself as a center for motion picture production with the opening of the Paramount studios. The city also played an important role during World War II as a training ground for American military personnel. In 1948, Pasadena became part of California after the state's admission into the United States.
