In the early 1800s, Paris, Texas was a small town of about 2,000 people. It was known for its oak-hickory lumber industry and its rifle shooting competitions. The area where Paris now stands was first settled by the Caddo Indians in the 1820s. In 1835, the Houston and Texas Railway arrived in Paris and started construction of a line from Houston to Dallas. This railroad made it easy for settlers to come to Paris and start businesses. The city grew rapidly during this time and by 1860 there were over 10,000 people living in it. One of the earliest shooters in Paris was Johnnie Ledecky. He was born in France in 1857 and came to America with his father when he was just six years old. Ledecky became a skilled shot at age 12 years old when he won a competition held at Fort Worth’s Fair Park. From then on, he would compete every chance he got. He eventually became one of America’s best shooters and won several prestigious championships including the Walker Cup at eighteen months old and two international tournaments – one held in England (1884) and another held in Germany (1892). Ledecky is perhaps most well-known for his participation in what is now called “The Great American Shootout” which took place between May 6th & 7th 1904 at Asiana Park near Philadelphia PA. More than 1,500 shooters from around the United States participated including such luminaries as Harry Kimball (USAC Champion), Tom Moran (British Champion), Lew Horton (American Champion), Al Detmer (Austrian Champion), Charles Beaumont (Canadian Champion) and Jimmy Barnes (Australian champion). During The Great American Shootout, Ledecky achieved five successive USAC National Championships with ease while also posting impressive individual scores that placed him second only to Harry Kimball himself!

The French community in Paris has dwindled since World War II but continues to support cultural events and activities including an annual festival that draws more than 100,000 people to downtown streetside venues each year during July & August weekend (the "Festival de la Musique"). A large complex called "Le Parc" occupies most of Section WOODSTOCK which used to be farmland east of Cedar Creek near present day Park Meadows Shopping Center before being developed into what is now known as three neighborhoods: West End (northwest corner), Central Heights (southwestern corner), and Montrose (southeastern corner). An adjacent piece of property now includes two shopping centers: Park Meadows Shopping Center and Farmers Market Place just northwest of I-10 Exit 209B off I-35W exit #1A/West End Boulevard southbound concurrent with westbound I-10 exit #209A/Montrose Boulevard eastbound) . All these developments are designed around one central core business district - Park Meadows - which has been expanding rapidly westward beyond Cedar Creek since its incorporation into Park Meadows back in 2004.

Paris, Texas is a small town located in Tomball County, Texas on the eastern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The population was 8,851 at the 2010 census. Paris has been inhabited by the same people for over 100 years and proud of its history. The first Europeans to arrive in Paris were Spanish traders and their Indian assistants who traveled along what is now I-35W from 1836 to 1840. They were looking for trade routes to India and China. In 1845, French traders arrived with a convoy of boats led by Captain Francois de Laclède. They set up a trading post near present day downtown Paris and named it "Nomade" after Captain Laclède's ship which sailed into port there on November 4th, 1845. In 1847, some Texans decided to move westward across the Red River into what is now Tomball County and founded the town of Paris on December 15th following an election held in which local farmers voted to name their new community after France’s capital city – “Nomade” in honor of both groups of traders./ On July 6th around 1830 German settlers arrived from Missouri via Rockwall Creek in present day Fort Worth also seeking land east of Wichita Falls on what would become statesman Vicente Fox's rancho de las Flores ( Rancho Viejo). A group led by John Hance reached Nueces River where they built their first cabin January 1st 1830 while others followed later that year when Hance became owner/operator of large cattle ranches surrounding Nueces Valley including La Frontera (present day Grapevine), San Antonio Rusk and White Sands Apache Reservation about 12 miles south of today's Houston Airport outside Richardson AFB.). The earliest homebuilding activity reported in Frenchman’s Forks occurs during this time period as early as 27Jan1830 when 2 logs were cut down at Frenchman’s Ferry just downstream from present day Uptown Park & wharf area.- hereafter called Frenchmen Point.– thenceforward all building activities are considered Frenchmen Fork….. In Feb1832 USGS surveyor O’Keefe surveyed Frenchman’s Ford & vicinity including river crossings & named it Brazoria Co., TX thereby incorporating parts or allGERMAN settlements within our limits………. By Dec1850 most Germans had moved East but many still lived hereabouts until 1865 when all Germans living in TX were ordered deported back east………….. One result of this forced migration was that many businesses closed down or relocated due to competition from Mexicanowned stores…."
Paris, Texas was founded in 1851 by a group of ranchers led by James Buchanan. The town became an important agricultural center, and its post office was the first in the area. In 1912, Paris was annexed to Austin.
