Paris, Texas is home to The Arsenal, a gunsmith and firearms dealer dating back to the 1870s. In those days, Paris was a busy port town with a booming trade in goods exported from Mexico and the United States. Gunsmiths were responsible for restoring old guns and providing new armaments for the city's militia and other law enforcement organizations. The Arsenal has been in business since 1875, when John W. White purchased it from his father-in-law, James Dickey. In 1934, White sold the business to J.B. Schiele of San Antonio, who operated it until his death in 1967. At Schiele's death, the business passed through several hands before passing into the ownership of Harry Weingarten at Weingarten Arms & Ammunition Corporation (WAEAC) in 1984. WAEAC was acquired by NRA in 1997 and continues to operate as an armory today within The National Rifle Association Museum complex located on I-10 just outside of downtown Austin. While living there he founded what would become known as La Jolla School District No. 1 & II (later renamed Rancho San Vicente). In 1927 he donated land adjacent to La Jolla Cove for use as a public school campus that still bears his name today- also called Napoleon III University Park (today part of Universidad de los Andes). After years of growth & development through several waves of migrants & newcomers- most notably during periods of Prohibition- by 1940 there were only 199 inhabitants left in Orleans Parish while over 6000 people lived Downtown with many contributing their skills or money towards building businesses or expandingiques such as L’Orangerie restaurant/bar which has been open continuously since then!
