When the American Civil War ended in 1865, Paris, Texas was still a part of the Confederate States of America. With its rich natural resources and growing industry (the first sugar refinery was built in Veracruz), French Guiana quickly became one of Latin America's most prosperous provinces. However, due to its proximity to Venezuela and Brazil (which had become countries after their independence from Spain), French Guiana also became home to some of Latin America's most violent gangssters and smugglers. In 1968-1969, two bombings occurred in French Guiana that killed at least twenty-six people and injured dozens more. These were the first terrorist attacks on Spanish soil since World War II. The investigation into these attacks began immediately following these explosions and led to arrests of many suspects including Carlos Santiso Guerra*, leader of the Marxist group Grupo de las Nubes (Groupsofthe Skies). Guerra would later be tried for terrorism offenses but found not guilty by reason of insanity* after claiming that he suffered from mental illness caused by his participation in terrorist activities*.

Other notable buildings include the Lyon Hotel which overlooksPARIS STREET and features pink marble walls and ceilings; The Post Office Building completed in 1911 is also significant; It features pointed arches over two stories with Richardsonian Romanesque Revival detailing including elaborate entablature; as well as several other smaller buildings including: A Masonic Lodge (built 1892), Holy Cross Catholic School (1910), Baptist Churches (built 1923), Evelyn Bank & Trust Company building (1927) There are several dozen gravesites scattered around town that have been carefully preserved by Historic Preservation Department staff; Among them are those associated with soldiers from World War I who died fighting on both sides - such as Captain John Wetherbee - as well as more recent residents such as Dragoons Sergeant First Class Darnell Henson and Specialist Bradley Johnson whose remains were found buried under someconi construction near Ardmore; All together there are over 150 gravesites located within city limits alone
