On December 1st 1907 Mr Fenton Glover opened up a general store in downtown Paris which soon became an important part of the local economy because it sold groceries as well as supplies for farmers markets throughout central Texas including those in Athens (Houston), San Antonio (Afton), Midland (Midway) and Fort Worth (Fort Worth). On July 10th 1922 Frenchman Malcom Wexler opened up his own grocery store at 511 N Grand Street which soon became known as Wexler's Grocery Department Store_. By 1933 there were 24 stores operated by Frenchmen operating in Dallas County including 6 grocery stores operated by Americans such as Mr Norman Pohlman Jr., Mr Clarence Whitehurst and Mr Emmet O'Neill all four operators having been natives of France originally but married American citizens
