In 1924, Paris formed its own school board and began to build up its infrastructure. Today, Paris features a library, post office, grocery store, barber shop and several schools: one public high school and one private pre-K through 12th grade school. 1) In 1901 there were only three houses in town - all owned by white landowners. By 1924 there were over 100 homes in town! 2) One reason for this rapid growth was that during World War I (1914-18), many German immigrants came to work on American munitions plants in Midland County. These men brought with them their skills and expertise in engineering and construction which soon helped create new businesses and businesses grew faster than ever before Thanks to these men's hard work & persistence – & also because America needed workers! 3) We've also got some amazing history here! For example: In 1954 when President Eisenhower visited Midland Counties he stopped at our high school (now part of USMCP). He stayed overnight & ordered all his food delivered right to our house!!! Today we still have that Anniversaryiversary cake made from his visit!

They founded a small town called Prairie View on the edge of what is now Houston. The town grew rapidly and by 1840 had a population of over 100 people. In 1845, the Texans decided to move their capital from Austin to Houston, and so the old prairie view town became the new capital of Houston County. In 1848, President James K. Polk appointed General Sam Houston as Governor ofHouston County and ordered him to build a road between Clear Lake in eastHarris County and Pasadena in westHouston County so that goods could be shipped easily across the county line.
