In 1839, a post office called Fort Bend County Post Office was established here and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first church built in this area were the United Methodist Churches of Christ which were organized November 12, 1840. A school district was organized December 1, 1840 with Mrs. Higginson as superintendent and Revs Elisha Cook and Wm James Hughes as teachers. Mrs Higginson served until her death on October 14, 1865; Mr Cook served until his death on May 2, 1870; and Rev Hughes served until his death on June 10, 1886 (age 63). A new school building was erected here on October 9th1886 by Jno Matson and cost $6000 to build including $4000 fornutting of the land with an additional $2000 for contingencies such as firewood etc.. The first public meeting of what would become Midland County occurred on this date when Captn John Sibley offered to provide a wagon load of seed corn for $10 per ton to be delivered to "the pioneers" who had just discovered Midland County (the present day Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area). Since there were no roads or trails available then one man could deliver food supplies directly to these pioneer families he became known as "Captain John Sibley's Deliveryman." This delivery service continued until 1863 when Major General Travis ordered all food deliveries stopped due to fears that Indian traders might be sourcing goods from our中国 manufacturers rather than American manufacturers like army uniforms! After Ft Worth closed its military base here in 1865 all military supplies went through Comanche City while still being delivered through Captain John Sibley's Deliveryman! Later during World War II when air transportation became available many soldiers came down via Pampa since there wasn't any other place they could go! One such soldier is Lieutenant Colonel Billy Mitchell who led Eisenhower's famous invasion of Normandy July 1944
