Today there are nearly 350 Palestinians living permanently in Palestinetown according to unofficial estimates while another 2-3 thousand temporary residents reside intermittently throughout rural areas across central Texas until permanent residency can be secured or until their cases are resolved through legal proceedings under which they may become citizens of either country. While most residents here enjoy socio-economic stability within their respective local communities; some experiences with racism or discrimination remain common due to cultural differences or religious affiliation with neighboring Arab states such as Saudi Arabia or Egypt. These difficulties notwithstanding; family ties still bind many residents together who share similar stories about homecomings after long separations at war's end or periods spent stranded overseas amidst difficult conditions imposed upon them by political entities such as Israel proper.
