Of course since 1967 there have been numerous armed conflicts between Israelis and Palestinians with both sides claiming victory each time (although occasional ceasefires have taken place). As a result of these three wars and occupation, over 1 million Palestinians have died – making it one of the world's most violently contested territories

The town became an important center for oil production and commerce, and its population swelled to more than 800 by 1880. In the 1920s, Palestine experienced a period of economic prosperity thanks to its location at the intersection of two major railroads. However, during the 1930s and 1940s, Palestine began to experience high levels of poverty and violence due to political instability in Mandatory Palestine. Despite this backdrop, the town residents continued to thrive throughout the years until recent times when it has seen significant declines in population and GDP.
