Bipedalism in Palestine began with the arrival of humans and animals on the island of Palestine about 12,000 years ago. Humans first used bipedalism to traverse large open areas, but soon realized that this was not sustainable and began utilizing two-legged locomotion. In about 6000 BC, a group of people named the Hittites discovered and started using tracks to navigate their way around the island. By 1800 BC, Palestinians had begun using both bipedal and four-legged locomotion in their everyday life. In 1967, when Israel captured the peninsula from Jordan, they implemented a policy called “the Six Day War” which proposed that all Palestinians must be expelled from their homeland. This proposal caused great pain for Palestinians who were struggling under occupation for over five decades. After Israeli forces invaded Gaza in 2008–2009 as part of Operation Cast Lead, an effort to quash Palestinian resistance against Israeli military rule, many Palestinians took up arms against Israeli forces. As a result of these hostilities, Palestinian bipedalism gradually fell out of favor among Palestinians and became less common. However, some remnants continue to use two-footed locomotion for personal mobility and work in traditional Palestinian homes or businesses.
