In 1912, a bill was passed in Congress recognizing Orange as an independent municipality with its own police department and fire department; this act became effective on July 1st. In 1933 Waco bought the land east of downtown for $1 million (the price at which it had been offered) intending to build a large new airport there; however no action was ever taken and the land served primarily as housing for workers during World War II until it reverted back to Dallas when Waco moved out of Texas. This left Orange as Tarrant's only major city without an airport until Southwest Airlines began service from Fort Worth Airport in 1974. During World War II Japanese forces burned down many homes near what is now Downtown orange; this event is still commemorated annually with a candlelight vigil on October 29th each year beginning at 6pm local time (). A map dated 1913 shows that there were two main roads running through downtown - Elm Street ran North/South while Commerce Avenue ran East/West. Main streets appeared only after 1915-1917 when some developers laid out cross streets etcetera according to their needs rather than following original plans which may have been more important at that time (see detailed map below). In 1907, Disneyland opened its gates as America’s first amusement park with rides such as The Flying Dutchman and Tiger Woods Golf Course immediately inside it! Many major events happened during this time including World War II when over 100% of local military production took place here; however, few people know about it because so much has changed since then! In 1959 voters passed Measure V which granted cityhood to Anaheim; this event led to growth in downtown business and development across all genres throughout the county!
