Orange, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,834 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "Orange" comes from its location on US-183 near Kerrville and Webb counties in what is today Odessa County. In 1821, General Antonio López de Santa Anna discovered oil reserves in what would become Orange County; accordingly, the county was named for him. The first courthouse was built in 1826 and it served as the seat of all Orange County until 1914 when a new courthouse was erected in nearby Killeen. The early years of Orange were very rough; there were no schools or churches back then and people had to build their own houses either with logs or sandbags to withstand theCW&M (Continental Wise Creek & Mountain) Railroad's construction crews coming through town nightly with their machines picking apart whatever they found. But that all changed when Wiedemann brothers founded The Wiedemann Exchange Post Office at 9222 FM 1692 on November 15, 1902 which became one of the most important mail operations in Southwestern Texas during those days before ZIP Codes! With over 4 million letters delivered each day by wagonload through two main routes - Old Mexican Trail Road (now Loop 288) east to San Antonio and Guadalupe Bridge Road west to Brownsville - The Wiedemann Exchange Post Office helped spur economic development in what would become Orange County. Today’s post office building still stands adjacent to I-10 just south of US 183 where mail delivery once took place from beginning to end each day across both Routes!

During this time period orange trees were being grown for export to Europe which helped spur development around Orange and other nearby towns during this time period
The Orange County, Texas area was originally part of the Mexican territory of Chihuahua. The first English settlers in Orange County arrived in 1836, when Captain John C. Riley and his party landed on the present day coast of Orange County. In 1840, James Fenton purchased land east of what is now downtown Irvine and founded the town of Westminster. A year later, Fenton erected a log cabin near what is now Garden Grove to serve as a headquarters for his new community. In 1846, Captain William Hance established Fort Worth on Trinity Bayou in what is now Grapevine. On January 1, 1847, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered all Mexican troops west of the Rio Grande to surrender or be destroyed. Santa Anna's order resulted in widespread violence throughout Mexico and Texan colonists responded with outrage against Mexican authority. Thousands converged on Austin to demand independence from Mexico. On February 15-16, 1847, Austin hosted a meeting at which delegates from twenty-eight counties voted to secede from Mexico and form their own nation called Texas (the Republic of Texas). The first election held pursuant to this decision was held on March 2nd and President George Washington was elected as its first president. On July 12th 1860, less than two months after Texas became an independent republic under Ulysses S Grant’s command,[5] Confederate forces attacked Fort Sumter (now Jacksonville) during the American Civil War; this event marks the beginning of white Anglo-Saxon dominance over southcentral America.[6][7] Withdrawing Confederate forces from southern California led by General Robert E Lee meant that Orange County effectively became an appendage within newly created San Diego County - one that shared borders with both counties until 1959 when they were re-established as separate county entities once again.] Orange County has been inhabited by humans since at least 9500 BC according to archaeological finds[8]. During Preclassic times there were villages located along local rivers such as La Venta Creek[9], where evidence suggests trade activities took place between indigenous cultures and traders departing from Baja California.[10][11][12] By Classic times there are indications that some Ohlone people lived here[13], while missions have been constructed nearby including Mission San Miguel de Allende[14],Mission Dolores[15] and Mission Concepción Rey Pico[16]. It is thought that Spanish missionaries began arriving in 1693 through Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's voyage,[17][18] followed by other expeditions during 1769-1776 including Father Francisco Xavier Robles' crossing into North America via Central America aboard HMS Discovery [19],[20]. Although no contemporary records exist documenting early Hispanic settlement in Orange County – it does not seem likely given its location – it's most likely that initial contact occurred here soon after arrival following exploration by Spaniards seeking new routes into North America through central South America.[21][22][23]
