Orange was founded on November 3, 1879 by Capt. John Crain and Col. George Washington Parrish as a small town named Dutch Flat on the banks of Buffalo Bayou near present-day I-45 and Beltway 8. The name came from its color: orange (a mix of yellow and red). The first post office in Orange opened in 1881. A cotton gin was built in 1880 to process cotton imported from Africa for local use; this structure still stands today as part of the First Baptist Church Annex building on Main Street. At that time, there were no schools or medical facilities in Orange proper; citizens had to journey an hour or more east to Galveston for medical attention or surgery. In 1883, citrus fruits began being grown hereabouts, and soon oranges were being sold throughout what is now Houston County and parts of Harris County; early crops included wheat, corn, beans, apples and pears. By 1897/98 orange production had reached 1 ton per acre (4 metric tons/acre). In 1898 two brothers named Harry White opened a grocery store on Third Street which became one of the most successful small businesses in Houston County at that time; it continued operations until 1958 when it merged with Waco Grocery Stores Inc., becoming Waco Grocery Co., Inc.; later renamed McLennan Company while continuing marketing under that name until1993 when it merged with Kmart Corporation forming Kmart Corporation America plc.). This company operatedaselves through 1997 before merging with Sears Holdings Corporation effective April 13th 1998 to become Sears Holdings Corp.(SHC) – one of America’s largest retail companies with over $US2 trillion ($3 trillion today) in annual sales across all geographies including Over $1 trillion ($1 trillion today) operated domestically plus international brands including Sears Canada (Canada), Sears Mexico (Mexico), Sears Asia Pacific (Australia & New Zealand), Sears IndoChina(Indonesia), Sears Chile(Chile) and their Italian sister company Sernatura AG(Italy). In 2003 DHS announced plans to close about 400 stores nationwide by December 2nd 2003 due to competitive pressure from online retailers such as Amazon Web Services.(www.searsholdingscorpusa@yahoomailboxeservice dot com). On October 29th 2003 management approved spinning off SAMSUNG Electronics AMERICA INC.(SEA) into its own publicly traded company effective February 5th 2004 giving SEA control over approximately 66% shareholding in Samsunsg Electronics Holding Co., Ltd..On January 14th 2006 SHC filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection seeking total debtors' imprisonment up to $US8 billion! In late 2006 Humble pie owner Arnie's Pizza Place applied forand received a license from HMSA authorizing them to sell pizza without having first obtained a food safety certification from Arnie's! After much discussion between HMSA staff members Arnie's Pizza Place was ultimately denied licensure but allowed access to their normal menu items

Orange is a city in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 22,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Wise County and the largest city in Wise County by population. Orange began as a post office on January 20, 1879. The name "Orange" comes from two terms which were used to describe new counties created during Reconstruction: "Oranges" because they included areas near what is now downtown Orange and "Old Oranges", because most of the area around present day Earlington Avenue (now I-10) had been part of Waco when it was founded on November 3, 1865. The first courthouse was built in 1879 and served until 1886 when a new courthouse was built at what is now Earlington Avenue. The post office moved to its current location on December 1, 1912. In 1907 an orange orchard dating back to the 1840s was destroyed by fire; however, it has been reconstructed several times and currently stands on land that once comprised much of Orange. One reason for this long history may be due to the fact that oranges are one of only two crops grown in Orange County (the other being cotton).
The town of Orange, Texas was named for General John C. Frémont, who fought in the Mexican-American War and then joined the Union army as a lieutenant colonel. The first settlers were either French or Spanish immigrants who arrived in 1836. In 1840, Orange became a county seat and began to develop as a regional center for cattle and produce sales. A courthouse was built in 1848 and an industrial area developed around the railroad depot. The population grew slowly until the start of World War II when it increased rapidly due to wartime production at nearby defense plants. The post-war period saw rapid growth with new subdivisions being created, but by 1970 the population had shrunk to its original size because of commuting problems from neighboring cities.
