North Richland Hills is a city in Texas, United States. It is the largest city in Williamson County, and the second-largest city in Dallas County after Dallas. The population was 143,895 at the 2010 census. North Richland Hills is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The town of North Richland Hills was founded by farmers on November 2, 1881 as a small community named Lone Star City. The name was changed to North Richland Hills on July 29, 1957 when it became an incorporated city. The original settlers were close friends of rancher John Denton and his son Wesley Denton who donated land for the town site. There are many stories about how NorthRichlandHills came to be what it is today; one story has it that John Denton met a girl named Flossie while she was walking her dog down White Oak Lane and offered her his home if she would move to Richardson County with him. She moved to North Richland Hills with him and started a grocery store there called "The Gables" which still stands today (it closed in 2001). Another story has it that Wesley Denton's father gave him $1,000 to purchase land for the town site and that he then built a house on it which served as the first schoolhouse in North Richland Hills (now known as South Lamar High School). In 1923, Dr. Jock Hughes opened up his surgery located on Interstate 30 near Springtown Road before moving operations to Highland Park almost 10 miles away from where he had originally set up shop - this event helped make Highland Park one of America's most highly developed cities during that time period! In 1951 local banker Vernon Wray donated land for what would become Wells Fargo Tower - now one of downtownDallas' signature landmarks! In 1968 local dentist Drs./Dr.'s Office/Dentist Co., Inc., relocated their dental office from downtownDallas(now SouthPark)to northRichmondHills due to overcrowding within SouthPark(then zoned for retail only)! Today'snorthRichmondHills also includes numerous other businesses including Synchrony Bank®, Hooters® chicken restaurants®, CVS Pharmacy®, UPS Store(), McDonalds®, KFC ® restaurant*, Sears* Roebuck & Co.* (* previously Sears * Jordan store*) – all within easy walking distance of each other making it convenient for residents and visitors alike! One important aspect of early day life at NHR included horseback riding trails accessable from our homesite just outside our backyards! Today those same trails offer plenty of activities such as fishing, golfing, camping or playing softball all year round thanks to some great volunteer coordinators like Mayor Floyd Landry’s daughter Autumn Landry Rodriguez! It wasn't until after World War II when things really began changing here at NHR – starting with Korea War veteran George Brown coming through town soon after!! After returning home he conducted research into new energy sources and formed West Texas Electric Cooperative which served northwest TX until its demise in 1984….the COOPERATIVE THAT HELPED TO MAKE NORTH RICHLAND HILLS THE GREATEST CITY IN TEXAS THANKS TO THEIR INVESTIGATIONS!!!
