The first section of what would become North Richland Hills was developed in 1933 by Clarence "Cotton" Witherspoon and his wife Hilda. They named their subdivision after their home town ofRichmond, Virginia which they had visited while on vacation with their parents. At that time there were no subdivisions in Dallas and many people lived near major colleges or city centers. By 1945, when development began to increase in downtown Dallas, the Witherspoon's subdivided land into three areas: Highland Park (the original name), Oak Lawn (later renamed Manor), and Arlington Heights (whose name means "Beautiful Heights"). In 1955, Earl Denton purchased some lands east of then-northwest Dallas from Cotton Witherspoon for $10 million dollars which formed today's north side of North Richland Hills Boulevard. Denton used this land to build his prestigious Denton Ranch Golf Course which became one of most popular courses inDallas/Fort Worth with 9 holes designed by routing architect Jack Nicklaus . In 1967, Driscoll Brothers merged with Fruitlands Enterprises to form Univision Communications Corporation which soon built its headquarters at 6100 West Elm Street across from Plano High School on what was then an open field now occupied by Baylor University basketball court or stadium! This marked another milestone for North Richland Hills as Univision soon became one of de facto neighborhoods withinDallas/Fort Worth itself! In 1984 Pembroke Development Company bought 84 acres northeast of Arlen Road from Driscoll Brothers and plans began to develop it into what would become known today as Starwood Villagebuyers complex including a movie theater; luxury apartments; a shopping mall; office space; restaurants; clinics; and more! Today’s north side Interstate 10 freeway runs through Starwood Villageand provides easy access to all that it has to offer without leaving North Richland Hills!

North Richland Hills, Texas is a town located in Richardson County, Texas. The population was 11,517 at the 2010 census. North Richland Hills is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by General John H. Richardson and named for his hometown of Northampton, England. The first school in the town was opened in 1882 and the first post office was established in 1886. In 1907, North Richland Hills annexed parts of Garland City to form a new municipality. In 1949, North Richland Hills became an independent city with its own government and mayor. On December 15 of that year, however, it reincorporated as a town due to concerns about how separate municipalities would interact with each other if they were both under one jurisdiction. In 1970, the city limits were extended to encompass all of Richardson County north of Interstate 10 and east of I-10 proper. On January 1st, 2009, North Richland Hills became one of seventeen cities within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area which merged into one consolidated entity known as "Dallas/Ft Worth Metroplex." This merger left many residents who had lived within specific boundaries for years without any change or notification; this caused some tension given that annexation had not been allowed by either side prior to the merge occurring and many close friends have since moved out to Dallas or Arlington because they felt their rights would be effectively violated should their old home become unsaleable due to changes made by "Metroplex".
