North Richland Hills is a city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, located on the eastern edge of the Dallas–Arlington county line. The population was 1,829 as of 2010. North Richland Hills is also home to Fort Worth Military Academy, one of the largest private schools in Texas. The community began as a small farming village dating back to 1892. The first post office was established in 1893 and would remain active until 1918. In 1924, a sawmill and grist mill were built within the boundaries of North Richland Hills. A large agricultural industry thrived in North Richland Hills during this time with areas such as corn, cotton, soybeans and cattle being raised. During World War II, NorthRichlandHills played an important role supplying munitions for Allied forces fighting in Europe. Many businesses closed due to wartime rationing but many continue to operate today including Alamo Drafthouse cinema which has been operational since 1978 and First American Bank which has been operational since 1907. In recent years there have been several major development projects taking place within the city limits including: The FirstEnergy Technology Park announced in February 2006; freeways Interstate 10/I-35W connecting Dallas-Fort Worth with Houston through Arlington; Northern Lights Casino Resort -nicknamed "The Las Vegas of Texas" - under construction adjacent to I-10 and Harlingen Airport; Centennial Olympic Park -home of the world's only professional multiuse skating rink - set for completion by 2020; and Parkway Central High School & Science Center which opened its doors in December 2009

North Richland Hills is located in Dallas County, Texas and is the primary municipality of the North Richland Hills Micropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, its population was 176,868. It is a suburb of Dallas. The name "north" comes from central Dallas, which is located on the north edge of the city proper. The hills that make up North Richland Hills were originally part of what was called Parkview Rancho de las Tinieblas (Parkside Ranch), a large ranch owned by Judge John Denton in 1876-1879. Northwest Ridge Road and other streets running through the area were named forJudge Denton's many holdings in that region. The first settlers to arrive in this area were James Hogg and his family who arrived around 1892. Hogg had come from Iowa Territory and purchased land east of downtown Dallas along Northwest Ridge Road/State Highway 9 near present day Wheatley Road/Upper Arlington Boulevard. soon after settling down he began to build a home which he named "Hogwarts". His home still stands today as a museum property within North Richland Hills’ limits - it is known as Hogg Museum #527. In 1902, Harry Wiltse bought some additional land adjoining Hogwarts and began to develop it into what would become North Richland Hills. Wiltse built several homes on this tract including one known as Hillcrest Estates which still stands today adjacent to Interstate 15 just east of Loop 610 South (Southpark Avenue). Other early developers include J C McAllister who developed Addison Terrace just south of Loop 610 South between Maple Lawn Drive and University Drive; Willis Dixon who developed Bowie Lane between Cedar Creek Parkway/SR 620 East off I-35W; Will Rogers who developed Village Green near present day I-45 West; Roy Robertson whose development included portions of Springtown eastwest of US 75; Reva Fleming who developed Pioneer Place westof US 183 about midway between current day Commerce Rd./Old State Rd./Shady Grove Dr.; Frank Olson who Developed Highland Park northeastof Main St./Highway 34W; Cecil Fenton whose development included much later Fairfax Station just outside UptownDallas

North Richland Hills became an incorporated city in 1907. The population of North Richland Hills grew to around 100,000 by the early 2000s. In 2010, it annexed part of Garland City.
