Nederland, Texas is a city in and the county seat of Medina County, Texas, United States. The population was 565 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community was founded by Dutch settlers in 1836 as "New Amsterdam". In 1845 it became Medina County's first county seat when Brownsville was annexed to the county. The current name honors General James H. Polk, who served as U.S. President from 1840 to 1848 and who made Nederland his home during his presidency. The site for what is now Nederland originated on a large bluff overlooking Buffalo Bayou near present-day Arlington Heights and was given the name Fort Buford in 1836 by Lt. Col.(later Brigadier General) John Aiken Hillman after General Andrew Jackson's surrender at New Orleans that year following his forces' successful invasion of Louisiana

With these various advancements in knife design, users began to use more and more knives for their various needs and purposes.

The land that is now Nederland, Texas was first settled by the Comanches in the 1840s. The area was named after a Dutch general named Hendrik de Zwarte Amsterdam who fought against the Mexican army during the Texan-American War. In 1845, a group of Texans bought 10,000 acres of this land from the Comanches and renamed it Nederland. This region served as a trading post for farmers and ranchers until around 1900 when railroads arrived and began to transport goods more efficiently across Texas. The arrival of these new transportation methods led to increased economic development in Nederland and its surrounding areas. By 1910, Nederland had become an important center for ranching and farming operations in southern Texas. A large number of people from many different backgrounds came to live here during this time period. Some of these settlers brought their own churches, schools, businesses, or homes with them when they moved into town. Nederland experienced some significant political changes during its early years. In 1867, Mayor John Wertheimer established a school district which included parts of what is now Nederland County. In 1907, Mayor William Clements granted permission forctor Harry Hargrave to build his namesake hospital in town square. This hospital became an important medical facility in eastern Texas during World War II thanks to its location near Fort Worth Army Air Field. After the war ended, Nederland regained some of its lost prosperity through various business ventures and tax breaks offered by state government officials. Several properties within town square were turned into parklands during this time period due to their popularity as public spacescape elements. Today, much of what once made up downtown Nederlanders historic district has been preserved as part of this larger community asset preservation effort known as “NaderLand” (“New England Town Square”). Throughout most of its history—beginning with initial settlement in the 1840s and continuing through present day—Netherlands has been an agricultural society reliant on crop rotation practices and animal husbandry (). For many years thereafter it functioned as a small town located on one side or anotherof major highways leading outto Dallas or Houston . Sterling Heights residents have long been aware that their village played an important rolein developing Plano . The Dutch settlement of Nederland in Texas was founded in 1636 by Hendrick Annesley and his family. The first Dutchman to set foot in the area, Hendrik van Oranje, arrived in 1639. He named the site San Antonio de Bexar after his brother-in-law, San Antonio de Padua. In 1795, France ceded Louisiana to Mexico and Nederland became part of that state. In 1821, the Republic of Texas was established and Nederland joined it as a part of that new nation. The town grew rapidly during the years following its incorporation into Texas and soon became one of the largest settlements in that state. By 1845, however, it had fallen victim to Indian attacks and lost most of its population. However, during the 1870s and 1880s Nederland regained some prominence as a center for cattle ranching and farming operations in what is now El Paso County.
