In 1925, Rev Jarrell Wetherbee became pastor of Nederland Methodist Episcopal church which had been founded by teacher John Thomson back in 1868 as a religious society for teachers and students working together on Clear Fork Creek School District #3 near present day Mesquite, TX In 1951 Rev James Forbes became pastor of Nederland Methodist Episcopal church which then merged with First Presbyterian Church to form Highland Presbyterian Church which continues today as Highland UnitedMethodist Church Incorporated (HUMICH). In 1957 Rev HUGHES took overorship from Rev James Forbes who later passed away .
