Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town located in the southern part of Tarrant County, Texas. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. It is named after the Nacogee River which flows through the community. Nacogdoches has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cwa), with hot and humid summers and mild to cool winters. The average rainfall is about 100 in/year. The first settler in what is now Nacogdoches was James Hance who traveled from Tennessee in 1827. In 1830, Hance's family moved to what is now Waco and founded an agricultural settlement there called "Hanceville". In 1834, John Wesley Powell landed on the Nacogee River near present-day Nacogdoches and named it after his home state of Ohio, Missouri - thus Beginnings Creek became Waco Creek for those living downstream. In 1836, Jno Ladds arrived with his family from Illinois and erected a log cabin on the east side of Main Street near today's Texarkana Shopping Center. Ladds also developed some land including what is now Cottonwood Park along Wichita Avenue east of US Highway 287. By 1840, many settlers had arrived in this remote corner of Tarrant County including James Fenton who decided to established himself as a merchant at Whatley's Landing on Buffalo Bayou near modern day Fort Worth before moving north into what are now Springtown and Mansfield Township in 1845. Most early ranchers were men such as Andrew Jackson Murdoch (1814-1883) whose Rancho San Angelo adjoined that of James Fenton just south of present-day Nacogdoches; or David Mixner (1795-1856) who operated three ranches northeast of town along Buffalo Bayou between today's Slaughtertown Road and FM 1492; or Jesse Owens who ranched along Buffalo Bayou between present day Springtown Road and FM 3684 about two miles northwest of town limits; all these pioneers had cattle drives running southwestward across open country from their properties throughout much of this region where wild animal populations were high due to lack thereof when discovered by humans several hundred years earlier

Nacogdoches, Texas is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hudspeth County. Nacogdoches was founded on December 6, 1847 by Col. John Buford and his regiment of militia after they defeated an Indian attack near present-day Nacogdoches. The town site was chosen because it lay on the bank of the Neches River and its name means "headquarters" or "capital." The first post office in Nacogdoches opened in 1851. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century as cotton farmers set up their operations around the large cotton gin built by J.B. Sweeny in 1876. By 1900, Nacogdoches had become one of the largest cities in Texas with a population of over 50,000 people and a growing economy based on agriculture, manufacturing and service industries such as banking and trucking services. During World War II, Nacogdoches played an important role as a munitions production center for Army ammunition plants across East Texas due to its location at the junction of two major highways that led to New Orleans and Dallas; also key were nearby Wichita Falls for aircraft manufacture and Lubbock for oil refineries producing gasoline and other petrochemicals. After World War II ended, many residents moved out to rural areas while others retired or worked in downtown businesses until they too left for good during economic hard times following the 1990s recession which hit every community statewide hardest. In 2000, local officials announced plans to redevelop portions of downtown into mixed-use properties including housing units, retail space and public open space using proceeds from redevelopment sales tax revenues generated by activities such as arts events/festivals and concerts held there each year since then known collectively as "Naco Fest." With development stalled for lack of funding through various state legislatures since before he took office in 2015 City Manager Randy Byrd said he has met with all levels of government about potential solutions but no consensus exists on where things should go next: Currently there are vacant buildings throughout downtown that could be used for offices or other uses if new ownership can be found; however developers have not shown interest so far; village officials have made presentations to multiple state legislators about developing riverfront property adjacent to their facilities but no decision has been made yet; meanwhile efforts are underway by citizens group Save Our Square Park located east of downtown which would include expanding what is currently parkland into a full acre greenspace with athletic fields/playgrounds extenuating circumstances exist (eagle Nest mine closure/Unocal drilling presence)
Nacogdoches was founded in 1836 by Captain John F. Smith and his wife, Abigail. The town was named for the Nacogee River, which runs through the area. In 1839, Nacogee County was established and Nacogdoches became its county seat. In 1851, Texas achieved statehood and Nacogdoches became its capital. The first courthouse in Nacogdoches was built in 1861 and it functioned as the county seat until 1865 when a new courthouse was constructed at what is now downtown Nacogdoches. During Reconstruction, many African Americans moved to Nacoogle to work on farms or as sharecroppers. After the end of Reconstruction, most African Americans left the area until after World War II when they returned to start anew in various communities throughout East Texas.
