The name "Nacogdoches" comes from the Choctaw word "na-kodchis", meaning "a place where there are many cotton fields." Early French traders named this area Natchitoches because of its abundance ofii fruits and vegetables. In 1836, General Sam Houston established Fort Bend County within present-day Nacogdoches County in order to protect settlers from Comanches and Kiowa Indians who were terrorizing adjacent territory. In 1849, Native American leader Quanah Parker moved his people from their traditional hunting ground near present-day Wichita Falls to a new site east of the Brazos River on what is now FM 1520. They called this land Parkers Prairie because it had been abandoned by previous hunter groups that left due to natural changes such as drought or illness among their clans. The first permanent settler in what is now Nacogdoches was James Elam on December 5, 1850. He built a log cabin at what is today FM 16098 just west of town limits; he named it Bald Eagle Station after his family's eagle farmstead nearby in Wichita Falls (now Wichita Falls State University). Other early pioneers included Johnathon Pryor (December 13, 1851), Hiram Sibley (January 1, 1853), Phebe Ann Smith (April 11, 1854), Amos Reynolds (July 251855) and Levi Coffin (October 10 1861). In 1865 Union general Jubal Early destroyed most paperwork documenting Indian activities in eastern Texas so that any future claimants would have an easier time proving they were not involved in warfare against their ownpeople than they did during earlier treaties with various tribes led by Chief Osage Agent Andrew Jumper northwest of Dallas/Fort Worth . This destruction also removed any evidence that Cowboys may have traded goods with these Indians for hides and other items used for clothing and shelter during early Anglo ranching efforts along the lower Rio Grande Valley.. As such much prior information about Indian activity in East Texas has been lost forever! A post office called Parkers Prairie was opened at Bald Eagle Station on December 5th 1850 by James Elams son Johnathon Pryor III & wife Sally Pryor

Nacogdoches, Texas is a small town located in McLennan County, Texas. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. Nacogdoches was founded on December 12, 1879 by General Edward H. Austin and his men after they abandoned their supplies and march from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls. The town was named for General Nacogee Creek that flows through the area. The town established schools in 1881-82 and a post office in 1883. A railroad station was built in 1886 and two stores were opened in 1889. The first settler to arrive in what is now Nacogdoches was Wm. Hinton who arrived on horseback on November 15th of that year with his family from Missouri City,Texas. In 1893 the name of the town changed to Nacogdoches due to its location at the mouth of Nacogee Creek which became known as "Nacogee's Waterhole." In 1907 a hospital (later renamed Baylor Hospital) was built south of downtown by Drs John Lubbock and George Haberfeldt and it served as both the hospital for McLennan County citizens and also as an emergency center for all parts of central Texas during World War I until it closed in 1922 because of budget cuts caused by then president Wilson Goodloe Johnson Jr.. In 1912 a cotton gin and sawmill were erected west of downtown; these facilities remain operational today as part of Crossroads Cotton Mill Complex LLC which includes other businesses such as restaurants, retail stores, offices etc..
