In 1907 Nacogdoches had its first bank - First National Bank - with A Fenton & Sons serving as its directors and president John Fenton being its founder/director/trustee In 1906 Nacogdoches founded its own high school - Southwestern High School - which graduated its first class of seniors on May 25, 1911 On December 12, 1916 Congressman J P Crocker (D-Texarkana) died suddenly while attending an office meeting at his home; news reports stated that he had been poisoned by someone within his party headquarters Two days later Representative Sam Rayburn (D-Texarkana) took over Crocker's seat vacated by Crocker On January 3 1917 President Wilson announced that America would enter World War I In 1918 during World War I General MacArthur proposed United States participation in European battleground France leaving no option but full entry into World War I for America except pacifism . Congress passed laws authorizing military involvement without congressional input . On April 6 1919 President Wilson delivered his speech justifying America's entrance into World War I; this speech opened up America's involvement in hostilities worldwide On October 15 1920 Congress passed an act proclaiming November 10th Thanksgiving Day national day of observance to commemorate America's role in war effort
